Thought I'd start up an actual topic for our Great Weapon brothers and sisters. That said... Any suggested builds for PVP?
I've just started playing this past weekend. I've hit lvl 11 and have been trying out the arena. I've been into MMO's since EQ back in 2000. The last MMO I was really into was WARhammer Online. I ran an Ork Choppa as my main most of the time and I'm looking to do some Melee face smashing on my Dwarf in NW.
-Builds for each bracket while I'm leveling.
-stat allocation? STR, Con, Dex....
-various builds via gear? Regen gear? All Con? Life steal gear? Crit gear?
I'm wanting a tanky survival build and an alternate big Crit Build.
Honestly there are some decent guides out there under a basic Google search.
Personally I haven't PVP'd that much with my GWF, but I've come away with a few thoughts - right now it seems like tactics are more important then builds tbh. Individually your build only does so much, while how your team plays and what classes/builds they have make more of an impact.
I was running a crit build early and found I died as much as I killed which meant I wasn't helping per se. I switched gears a little bit and focused on mobility and interrupts/stuns. That's been working better when I do PVP. I don't get as many kills, but I constantly harass the enemy spawn flag and the casters in the back who think they are safe. Takedown, Roar, Mighty Leap, etc. Movement bonus, crit bonus, power bonus. Engage, harass, retreat or kite. While I have been winning more than losing, as I said that could easily have more to do with my team as a whole then my build.
Tanking in PVP doesn't seem to really work IMO. We just ignore GF's and go after the DPS. I rarely see anyone Marking targets, maybe that would make a difference, but we always leave the GF's until last because they are hardly a threat. More specifically, I'm not sure if you can outtank the multitude of Rogue's out there. You're only hope is to stun lock or outdamage them. Everything else hasn't really been a problem in an even fight.
with gwfs in pvp the main thing you need is lots of hp, around 30-40K should be good, then focus on getting the bloodraven skull artifact, wait til youre almost dead, use artifact and then beat the snot out of who you were fighting.
also as a gwf and the fact gwfs are severely underpowered and under appreciated in pvp, your main job will either be to run between 1 and 3 or to be fodder and mostly a distraction at 2
Get like 40k+ hp with 45%+ deflection and damage reduction... it will make you last MUCH LONGER in a fight. Pretty much after that if you use takedown + frontline surge you can stun most enemies long enough to hit a restoring strike and get ALOT of hp back from your enemy. Also Id suggest IRON VANGUARD and SENTINEL... that damage resistance when you go unstoppable is RIDICULOUS. You may not hit as hard as a destroyer but you are deflecting and absorbing way more damage and with your health pool you last quite a while.
Find me in game if you want and send me a domination/ gaunt invite. If you are good and im not busy ill play with you. Im not an elitist ill play with almost anyone.
The most beneficial way to play GWF in pvp is to go straight DPS. Destroyer Sword Master will prepare you for the changes coming to the class. You hit faster then any class in the game (flurry doesn't count) and therefore you should maximize your dmg and criticals the best you can.
It's worth noting that going full DPS will STILL leave you enough Defense/HP to not be soft. You'll still be able to take a pretty good beating without having to worry about pots. When you get Tenancity? you'll be a god. Trust me.
