Helpful Tips for Choosing Vigilance Quests

So I just leveled to 70 on my CW and I thought this might be a good place to share some helpful advice for those who are still making the journey.

One helpful tip that I found is that it's a good idea to go to all the quest givers to inspect their quests first before selecting the four you are going to fulfill at that moment, and try to choose quests that are complementary to each other. So if one quest is "kill X cultists" and another quest is "collect X number of scrolls that drop from cultists", then pick both of those at the same time; since you'll be killing cultists anyway for the first quest, might as well pick up the scrolls that they drop at the same time.

Another one is that there are a few quests that are relatively easy, like "go kill this 1 dude". If you're really struggling leveling up, those are a good choice. They don't grant a lot of XP but they are doable by anyone.

Another one are the quests that involve going to mini-lairs. People in zone chat are always wanting to party up to do those, so those might be good ones to take as well, since you'll find people willing to help.

Any others?

Oh also, it's a good idea to inspect all of the vigilance quest givers' quests because sometimes they will offer Elemental Aggregate or Unified Elements as a quest reward, and those are always good to take since those will be very much needed at lvl 70.

Also, I tended to take the Vigilance Quests that asked you to complete a Heroic Encounter, since I was going to do those anyway since those can also sometimes reward you with EA and UE. But, those are harder, so if you are really struggling you may want to skip those.

If I take them, I always wait until I have two quests for the same lair.

Also if you're doing quests in Helm's Hold and take the 'kill 10 blackmantle wizards' quest (I hope that's what they're called, can't really remember), instead of killing those three you can find in Helm's Hold over and over again, go to Memorial Hills, there's lots of them out there.

Good advice, with one exception, avoid any quest that has you gather a number of mob dropped items. The drop rates are far to low to make those quests worth the time. Quests like the the one to gather guardsmen personal effects in drowned shore, are simply horrible time sinks.

Stick to mini lairs, named boss kills (best when played on maps with low populations), kill x number of creature quests*, complete HE quests, and quests that have you gather stuff from fixed nodes, not mob dropped.

*Be wary of quests where you need to kill a specific type of creature, hags instead of something more generic like cultists. Unless you are alone in the instance or you are sure there are more then enough mobs to go around.

It's also a good idea to keep an eye on how many people are in the instance with you. Some quests are very quick if you have the place to yourself. Others, like HEs, might require you to be in a busier instance. In many cases it might be faster to switch instances to get an HE or boss to be available. Rather then to wait for them in your current instance

Weird. I avoided all the assassination quest like a plague. Thought they had to high a variance in time to complete. I am much more into low variance moderate expected time than high variance low expected time. Kill X quest + drop quest are pretty much the best for low variance moderated expected time.

I hate the vigilante quest lines, the drowned shore, reclamation rock and fiery pit, they actually dont matter.. at all, all you care about is experience, get the quickest, easiest ones possible.

    I can confirm another thing..

DROPs (like the stupid green hag eye (killed like 50!) before I got the eye) is a waste of time.

The only ones that actually matter are the spinward ones, if you want a free artifact weapon, if you pre bought some mats to make your own, then its only experience that matters.

I know others that said skip the mini lairs, but I find them a fairly quick process to get 8k or so of experience (2 or 3 other quests!)

Even with 5 r7s azures slotted.. gawd the pain of leveling right now on same repeated boring quests.. I DO like spinward though, its fun. If they couldve just done regular leveling process up to spinward, It would be much less painful .

Word on the street is you get your level 70 artifact weapon from completing all the vig quest. More productive to do it as you level than to save it til your 70 and then do it.

I rather like the minilairs as they usually have quite a few skill nodes (the ascension ones in reclamation rock in particular)

Skill nodes are awesome now, mostly rank 5s and mark of potencies seem to drop more often from those, too.

Some quests in reclamation rock seemed to have a pretty decent drop rate and were easy to do with others. The call to alms and the one that dropped some plague-related items in Helm's cathedral. Some of those were even picked up when running over them, which was nice as it usually took some seconds for the pick-up option to appear on items.

Here is a tip : Avoid them.

Magma brutes give about 1000 xp a kill. They are normal mobs. I have slain sooo many. I got about a level an hour and hit 70 in a day or two in a small grind group. I could grind and goof around with my friends. Grind like this is actually more enjoyable than trying to keep our quests grouped. We had planned to quest up, but once we realized that we could not complete vigilance tasks when grouped (I think that bug was fixed?) we looked for other ways to play together. We tried grinding HEs, but the xp was poor. That is when we found the magma brutes. There are probably other mobs out there with similar spawn rates and xp, but I don't know of them.

I suffer from OCD so I absolutely have to finish every single Mod 6 zone and complete the questline on my main before I move on. However, I will likely lvl my second HR through the ToD campaign for buckets of XP and only do Spinward Rise for the artifact MH. These vigilance quests really are a pain in the @ss.
    Our pain is self chosen.

I hit 70 after 2 days, my advice differs slightly:
    1) Do the quests in whispering caverns if you havent done them already.
    2) Make sure you slot azure enchants
    3) The moment you unlock fiery pit quests, only quest in fiery pit and not anywhere else, the quests are quick and easy to do. If you run out of fiery pit quests, then flee to the drowned shore until a quest becomes available.
    4) Do the mod 4 dailies if you got nothing better to do, they reward well.
    5) When choosing vigilance quests never choose the ones in drowned shore the involve killing some particular individual as the ones there are public creatures that someone is bound to have killed, you waste valuable time waiting for them.
    6) Reject any quest that is long, accept the quick ones that reward high xp or the ones that do not involve lots of searching. For example, reject the demolisher quest in fiery pit where you need to kill 16 demolishers for scrolls, it takes too long for the xp you get.
    7) Do not party up for quests, you lose xp in the process.
