I am having trouble deciding on which encounters to use out of these 3

Rain of Arrows
Split The Sky
Thorn Ward

I want one of these but am not sure which to choose. My other 2 are Constricting Arrow and Marauder's Escape so if you suggest I use a completely different encounter, don't suggest those 2.

Note: please remember that this is an archery build

.... rain of arrow? Pvp?? No one of those. They do little damage over time...you are dead before the first proc. If you really want to try maybe split the sky can be skmetimes useful. Thornward used to be good

For a archery build you say? Well the encounts i would use if my Trpper HR was a archer would be. Split the Sky Thorn Wrad and Binding Arrow/Constricting Arrow(Depends on the amount of mobs you're facing)

Oh and are you doing Pve/Pvp?

If it's for PvP, Fox's Shift/Cunning for survivability against TRs.

Don't try to find a single setup for both PvP and PvE; I change powers and artifacts, lots of people even change armor.

Thorn Ward on an Archer isn't that good - greatest invention since sliced bread on a Trapper maybe, but for an Archer fairly meh. Also it only attacks one target.

Split the Sky rulz with an Archer. Got me more kills in GG PvP than any other single skill on 6 characters. Hits back at any red hitting any blue underneath its cloud, so DPS galore for you. And the best part: Permastealth TRs just plain hate it. Sometimes scares them away from points. When you rack up recovery, and place 5/5 in the prolonged duration feat, it's even possible to cast it end-to-end. And when you have good survivability (High Deflect & Tenacity), and the TR isn't that good, you can even bring him to Shockingly Self-Execute - after all, StS makes lightning, which is shock isn't it?

Oh, and for extra fun taunt him afterwards in chat, he'll never do anything useful for the rest of the match but try to chase and kill you...

Cordon of arrows feels like a mini nuke, so I'll take that in any build. Also plant growths gives archers the CC they lack, so another plus.

I play trapper but if i choose archery i will use cordon, constrict, hawk shot
The point is to drop you oppenet fast with hit and run
use contrict first so your hawk and cordon can't be dodge
I got my interest in range melee cross build with +50% cri sev but with -10% crit change and tenacty give arpen resist i don't know if this can be pull of since we gonna need a lot of crit and arpen
need to be bis to cek if this available

I leveled an Archery HR to 60 through PvP so take this with a grain of salt,
however, Hawk Shot seems a bit too situational. Getting decent range on anything is easier said than done. Especially when GF/GWF are permanently rushing you and TRs are stealthed all the time.

On a relevant note, this thread is relevant to my interests. I've tried full Archery on Preview but I really wanna see what it's capable of in PvP on Live.
Broken mechanics, broken class designs, lack of actual content, and over zealous, bronze-age moderation?

    Go Cryptic!
    PS - I quit.

As much as I'd like to play an Archer in pvp, they bring nothing to the table. No CC, no survivability, no chance in 1v1, can't defend node. All they are good for is picking off ppl from afar.

For DOM all true. Defending a Golem-guarded node in GG PvP, however, works astonishingly well - with StS.

And re. survivability: They're IMHO the hardest hit by the LS nerf, but still HR is the one class where the same ability score boosts damage and deflect chance... ...silver linings only, but...

I love playing an Archer in both PvP and PvE. Had a domination match yesterday where I blew up the opposition while defending the center node (#2) by setting up cordons, stunning those who got through with disruptive, split-shotting multiples if they got near the node, and stance shifting with marauder's rush to slam those who tried to get away or whom I could rush and kill immediately due to low HP.

Something everyone talking about Archers seems to forget...the tab key still works. It may not be nearly as potent as in the Trapper build, but it has its uses. Archers can still melee. I do it all the time. As mentioned above, I love me some Marauder's Rush!

Playing the Archer build is all about situational awareness...dodging, staying alive, picking off the slow-moving meat from afar, and knowing when to rush into a fight to melee and when to stay back and pew pew pew them to death.

My advice for an effective Archer build:

At-Wills: Split Shot always; Rapid Shot in PvP (due to speed of shots), and Aimed Shot in PvE (due to massive DPS), Rapid shot works well in PvE too. Just a matter of preference and playing style.

Encounters: Fox Cunning/Shift (for TRs in PvP and as a save when low on HP in PvE); Marauder's Escape/Rush (need it for the quick dash escape when required, and the quick damage slam as indicated above); Cordon of Arrows (great for setting up kills zones and blocks in PvP; also, can set them up in front of mobs on PvE and then split-shot them and watch them stride through three cordons to their death)

Dailies: Disruptive Shot (always...only 25% action point usage, and great in PvP. I love watching a baffled CW get hit by one and then hitting them with Marauder's Rush and pounding them into oblivion); Forest Meditation (always...best last-ditch save and heal option for the HR in both PvP and PvE). Lots of folks like Forest Ghost. I find it overrated for the points required to use it.

I do use Split the Sky at times in PvP (great AoE encounter as noted above; fantastic node defense) and Thorn Ward in PvE (even though it only affects one opponent, as long as I can dance around it, it's very effective; also great in Boss fights where I can throw it at the Boss if he/she does not move around a lot). Since Cordon came out, it has gained my preference, as it achieves much of the effect mentioned for these, and with my cooldowns so low, I can keep them constantly deployed. Frickin' awesome!

Also...your armor, boons, enchants and such matter A LOT as an HR, no matter what your build. I've found that this class really works best with a balance across stats. Such a versatile class needs points pretty much everywhere (except for the now-useless Life Steal).

Just my two cents. I'm the dinosaur who has played pure Archer builds since the old Baldur's Gate days. It's all about player skill, and building muscle memory with your keys so that you can use these encounters to their greatest effect. I just love destroying enemies without getting touched, and ticking off a TR in PvP so he follows me around for the whole match wondering how I'm dodging his first strike, dashing away and them destroying him.

I'm thinking about soon building another toon just to try the Trapper build, since I stance switch anyway, but I'll never stop playing the pure Archer build as my main. With the right gear and the right skillset, he's one deadly HAMSTER.

Oh yeah...and Rain of Arrows is virtually useless.

Pure archer since mod 4 is fun and mostly is about strategic positioning. They are the class that require to use the brain the most, instead on relying on certain combo or rotation. They have an unconventional style of play. Many people tend to think they are weak because it has no definite combo or rotation. It has less CC and survivability compared to trapper and combat tree and its one of the most hardest class to play. But they are deadly if they are played right despite considered being a handicap class due to lack of asset compared to other class. Their inferior nature leave them no room even for one single mistake. Thats why, i have the most respect to pure archer player that performed well in pvp than other class. Especially to those that are able to do backcapping job well. Any player that is tired of easy class can give it a go. It definitely will satisfy ur hunger for challenge. Cheers!
