Ah the potion bug, part of the game since beta. Responsible for the untimely deaths of many an adventurer. I had forgotten about this chestnut until I started playing mod 6 areas and was actually using health potions again.
Now I'm out there getting into major furballs, somehow drawing in more and more baddies as I fight and my reworked lifesteal is one misfire after another and my health is dangerously low. I hit the health potion button on my belt. Nothing. It misfired and went on cooldown and I am forced to flee for my life (which we all know doesn't work in Neverwinter). I die and respawn miles back at camp with an injury.
This only seems to happen in the more intense fights when it absolutely can't happen. The problem seems to be made worse by the server lag we have been having, causing more frequent misfires. New superior healing is also affected as well as rejuventation potions. Now more than ever having health potions that actually work consistently in heat of battle is imperative.
Before the naysayers and apologists say anything such as "it probably went off but you took damage again and didn't see it", no that is not it, move on to another thread. You will notice the health bar fill upward and go white for the portion you lost again when this happens and the misfires happen so often that I watch that bar intently before/during/after the potion is taken.
So my question is, this long standing problem that has been acknowledged by the devs as something they have been looking into for 2 years, why has no one come up with a solution? Especially with the increased difficulty and what was done with lifesteal? How hard would it be to write a subroutine into the code as a sanity check, if potion used was health applied-if not reset cooldown and replace potion in inventory. I realize that bugs that only happen when the game engine is under stress are hard to test for and fix, but a safety net routine for when it happens would be much better than just leaving it in game and calling it a random chance you got a bad potion.
*Also not posted in bug forum as this bug is known to cryptic and never addressed. Need more people to know why they mysteriously die even after using potions and hopefully Cryptic will finally assign someone to fix this.
I absolutely hate this bug. It costs you a health potion, cool down a death and an injury kit. And yes it seems to happen in the worst situations, because it does seem to misfire more frequently when lagging.
There's also a fatal bug with Trickster Rogues, where the stealth meter just stops recharging. As a TR in mod 6, being one shotted, this bug pretty much guarantees death.
