you're wrong, players on preview tried it. mind you these were buffed/duped chars with all legendary everything, all rank 12s, full set of lv 70 PVP gear, etc.. died hundreds of times getting to end boss, could not complete end boss after a dozen wipes.
challenging, sure. impossible? even for the best-geared? uh, no.
difficulty is so far out of whack right now it's not funny.
I do fully agree with original poster!!! ... ...
I tell you, reach 70, equip your toon... and experiment with different builds. Everything is going to be okay!
I disagree with the original poster, and despite his good intentions, I think that the difficulty is too easy is some places, and horribly difficult or broken in others.
In terms of difficulty, I found the quests from 61-70 doable solo. No, I didn't have to party. The mobs were easy. The only difficulties I faced were the Heroic Encounters, like Feeding the Fire, which took about 10 of us in concerted effort to win, with only 10 seconds to spare. I was only a middling 17k CW in Mod 5, yet the grind was too easy in some respects.
Now level 70 and beyond is where it gets difficult.
I've reached 70 and equipped my toon with the Burning PvP set. I saved for the seals (which you can no longer get for now) and grym coins and glory for this. I have 85K HP, chose all the defensive boons (I've finished all of them), and stacked azure enchants. I've specced for control with icy veins, and opted for group buffs with the renegade capstone. I run shield on tab and have slotted control and freeze encounters.
I've been in a few level 70 dungeons, but some of them were impossible. Some team-mates, I could tell from inspecting their gear, were probably 20k+ GS in Mod 5, so they weren't weak. TOS, ELOL were abject failures. VT was doable as the mobs don't appear if the coffers were destroyed. Mini-bosses can crit for over 300K HP, and even though our GF had over 120+HP, there was no possible way that there would be enough DR to mitigate that kind of damage, even with the DC spamming astral seal. The ranged mobs were the worst - in a way, they can be trickier than the bosses as they don't herald their attack with red zones but can hit for 40K+ HP if caught out.
I know it's early days yet, but how are we supposed to survive any better? The PvE sets I see in the collections page aren't much better than the PvP sets. Sure we can refine our enchantments to level 12, but not everyone has the will to do that.
The increased difficulty is only going to separate the established players from the newer or casual players. How will newer players who didn't farm glory/seals or what not even going to do these dungeons to get those PvE sets? Buy them from the AH? Then what's the point of the dungeons?
...

Are the campaigns doable at 70 w/ some better gear? Think you could solo Dread Ring? Can you do dailies in WoD, The open map ones not the mini-dungeons?
Are the campaigns doable at 70 w/ some better gear? Think you could solo Dread Ring? Can you do dailies in WoD, The open map ones not the mini-dungeons?
Yes I can do the open map dailies in WoD quite easily. I also did some of the mini-encounters solo, they were a little trickier but I managed. For Cult Prison I went with a group of 5 as someone was forming a group. I don't think I can solo the Warden, and don't really want to at this stage.
For the WoD Dragon Heralds, the best our team had done was 1 1/2 dragons in 15 minutes. Tiamat was QQ; we didn't get past the cleric stage (granted, I was there only out of curiosity, and only 19 players were present).
I haven't done Dread Ring yet, that's next on the list. I can solo the Sharandar quests and Celandaine reasonably well.
After introducing huge power creep with artifacts and not raising the difficulty level, they finally raised the difficulty level. From the perspective of a veteran player, let me tell you why this is a good thing:
a) Most of the people that I've known have left the game for this reason: not bugs, not grinding, just that they had nothing more to do in the game. They've solo'd/duo'd CN, beaten EDV many times, and gotten tired of PVP.
b) The game is interesting again, as you can actually die from running into a pile of mobs now. I used to join PUGs for ESOT/ELOL just to get more of a challenge as it was too easy running it with my guild. We've done stripped down EDV runs, CN runs with PUGs, and there wasn't much left to do.
c) Casual players: you won't always be casual if you continue playing the game. Eventually you'll get better gear, learn strategies, improve your builds, join guilds, etc. Do you want everyone (including yourself) to leave after 6-8 months of playing due to boredom?
d) I've been around before they introduced the power creep and dungeons were a lot more fun. You had to actually stop and discuss strategy in a PUG before attempting the boss in SpellPlague, instead of the "moar DPS" strategy we see today.
Please leave the difficulty intact. Don't change power curves, improve lifesteal, or anything else other than fix bugs. Glass cannons with 12k power are supposed to die fast
i agree with you and i have casual friends with playtime 1 2 hours they love this module actually they enjoy the fact that they need to play right the class instead to depend to lifesteal and regen.
Revert to the previous difficulty dungeons for level 60. For level 70 players, make a 'Legendary' dungeon in hard mode with added rewards.
Two or three tier level of difficulties in dungeons can help cater for the newer/casual players who want to play content, and established players who want to test their mettle.
*update* (since you guys are fairly certain the content is so awesomely challenging WHY CHANGE IT)
GWD failed. we never even got past the first boss. THAT bad. 50 downs no less. 1 dc, 1 tank, 1 gwf, 1 cw, 1 hr. And god bless, we're all geared and fairly good players. None of us new or in need to learn tactics. We have tried EVERYTHING, got the boss to 0.5% HP and wiped. This is not challenging, this is r3tarded. We were there for 3 hours no less.

Mod 6 is a whole new world of pain. It is a beautiful challenging landscape!
Will you die? Yes.
Will you swear in frustration? Yes.
Will you feel awesome when you eventually overcome the adversity? Yes.
Look, I'm not saying it's perfect. It isn't, and there are bugs to fix and challenges to tweak.
However, no longer is NW face roll easy.
That is a super duper over the top amazing thing!
Embrace the trial by fire, and emerge through it better then when you started.
It's only been 3 days people, seriously... Other MMOs didn't have bosses/dungeons beaten for MONTHS. That's not even an example, that's a fact.
I'm sorry if you don't like it, but Mod 6 can be summed up in one sentence...

The thing is, content that's an exciting challenge to a BiS player who 'had everything pre-mod 6' is near impossible and unfun to us lesser mortals.
And I won't play a game that doesn't provide fun. Not ever.

I don't like the difficulty level and the way it was implemented and in general i hate this Mod.However it's not just me or you that matters but the ENTIRE playerbase and the revenue it produces. That means,if customers start leaving and profits go down, then no matter what "Hardcore" players say, difficulty will be toned down on all levels and content will change. We'll just have to wait and see.Just for the record, with this content , i don't see them getting peoples money.
this isn't "that other" mmo that you loved so much - and I've played them all, and I've been in uber guilds that literally took months to beat the hardest bosses/dragons/gods/etc in the game. this isn't that.
this is NWO
it's a casual D&D game for the general population, not no-life basement dwelling "hardcores".
I don't know how many of you were around in beta or early release NWO. back then, the epic dungeons were pretty hard, especially Castle Never. stuff hit hard, stuff had a lot of HP, stuff summoned adds up the yazoo.. bosses caused wipes, several wipes. but we slogged thru it. we got better gear, and we got better SKILLS. I mean, we didn't know what the eff we were doing at first.. but we got better and we beat it, and it was FUN.
guess what, this isn't that. this is, seasoned players who KNOW how to play their class at the highest levels, ALREADY with the best gear, or best available (I mean, you gotta kill these bosses for the seals to get any better gear..) and it's not hard, it's damned impossible.
I am on board 100%. This sense of entitlement, when I want it all and I want it now because I am a princess and I deserve it, has to go.
Oh, funny. You want to tell the world what has to go and what can stay, or rather who. Please, do talk some more about who is having a false sense of entitlement, my princess. *lol*
Just wanted to chime in from a individual perspective from someone who had everything pre-Mod 6. My character was a GOD. If he ever died, it was because I wasn't paying attention and got distracted.
...
Or get of your high horse. Not everybody was a 'God' prior to Mod 6.
Please don't misconstrue my statement as condescending, or anything of that ilk for that matter.
I was simply conveying that challenging is fun, and I have plenty of undergeared toons that I am/will be enjoying the content with also.
Oh don't worry - I read enough of your posts to know you aren't an elitist snark-monster. You may be a little out of touch with how players with low-to-middling gear and enchants experience the game, however.
I agree that challenge is fun IF the challenge is reasonable AND you get rewards/progress for succeeding. The Mod 6 levelling process is NOT rewarding and your toon actually goes BACKWARDS in terms of capability as you level. This is beyond ridiculous. If they needed to reset the stat curves - and I can see the arguments for doing this - then they should have implemented the new curves from 1-70 and rebalanced existing content to suit. That way everyone would take an initial hit but experience PROGRESSION as they levelled. That's what MMOs are all about.
If you don't enjoy it, I bid you a fond farewell...
Truly no sarcasm, I wish you the best in your future gaming endeavors.
If I didn't have time and money invested in my toons I'd be gone already. As it is I've picked one toon to level to 70 before deciding whether to call it quits for good - or at least retire from active play and keep a watching brief on future developments. I have other games lined up already.
The thing is, the core of NWO is a really enjoyable game. The combat system is second to none and as a long-time PnP D&D player the setting and lore is great. But the grind is beyond awful and Mod 6 is a train wreck. A lot of players are going to leave and that's bad for everyone.

This isn't rocket science. 3 days is enough to learn how to live without lifesteal. We're not incompotent, trust me. 52 tries on the boss, we got the right tactic, but it's just freaking frustrating and near to impossible to nail it down so perfectly no one dies. This is not challenge, this is stupidity. t1's are much easier and we were able to beat them down after a few tries. T2's are a WHOLE different matter. They need to tone them down right freaking now by at least 20%. No one has the time or the will to spend 4 hours inside a dungeon with not even third done. I can only take care of my own skill and maybe guildies, but I can't educate the whole game for amazing skill and immunity to flaws.

i honestly didnt believe you so i decided to go try a t1 dungeon. and god i was shocked to see how hard it was. literally we couldnt make it to the first boss and we werent bad at all.
This isnt about difficulty its about "doability" its not doable at all...
This ISNT a "red" attack its a base attack from a mob in temple of spider.
We also ran ELOL as you can see here:
First boss, throws a spear at you if you are too far out of reach for his melee, this hits you for 200k....
If you ARE near him he hits with his base attack for 300k....
Its not about difficulty, its they need to scale these mobs damage down. Im all for astral shield and what not, but this doesnt even do anything against this damage.
FYI - this is with a perfect negation on... Didnt even help...
Id like to add, I am 10000% behind making these dungeons VERY hard. However hard implies "skill" involved there is no skill or gear you can get or even running an OP+DC with Astral doesnt help - we tried it you just get 1 shot and the GF dies instantly with Knights Valor even when blocking...

there's a vast difference between good challenging and simply frustrating, undoable challenging. this is the latter my friend.
