Den of the Grey Wolf

I picked up a quest for this dungeon with a lvl 42 character and tried it with a 5-member team (No DC tho'). We got wiped on the final boss, multiple times.

An old thread (http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?349512-Den-of-the-Gray-Wolf-Bugged-even-worse-than-before) suggests that the final boss is extremely hard, even for lvl60 characters.

Should this dungeon only be tackled at a much higher level than 42?

The last boss has some tricky mechanics, which I can't remember unfortunately, sorry. It has something to do with the hands that come out of the ground and the Shadow Wolves.

Don't let the shadow hands touch you, each person they hit make them spawn another shadow wolf. That includes companions.

Hmm - can you kite with a ranger?

Should be cake with a level 60. It has been awhile but I remember the key to this one being ranged attacks. There is a spot right outside of where you enter that is above where she is. You can spam ranged attacks on her from there and when she moves up to get you, move out of her range and spam more ranged attacks. I forget the exact mechanic but I believe it is if she hits you, more wolves spawn. So the key is not getting hit by her.

You have already been given good advice but unsummon all companions before the fight apart from augment stones , the boss hitting even companions causes Shadow wolves to spawn, kill any Shadow wolves fast that appear , they can be lethal fast , dodge the red circles where the hands pop out of the floor.

Dismiss all non-augment companions. Send someone to tank her. Everyone else stand up on the ledge and either use ranged attacks, heal, or protect the healers and ranged attackers.

It's not about kiting it's about dodging out of red circles when they appear. Once you can do this the boss isn't an issue. Basically, if you were standing in red, don't.

It's not the hands, it's her sword attack that spawns the wolves.

The wolves have little health, but hit really hard. If too many spawn at once you will get shredded. Limit your exposure to her, put a minimum number of people in melee range with her. If you can limit the number of wolves you have to deal with, it gets easier.

Be extra careful when she is low on health. She will spawn adds as she takes damage. But the lords at the end can be a real pain, don't let them use their bite attack on anyone, it heals them for a ton and can make the fight seem endless

Ta, all very useful (including the comment about lifesteal for rangers).

I was fighting with a GWF, which since it lacks dodge, seems to be the most useless class with this boss.

The real problem with this, is its only part of the problem. The sword attack that spawns the wolves has no red telegraph, the wolves have no red telegraph. Heck, not even the annoying Lord bite attack has a red telegraph. So the biggest annoying dangers in this battle have to be avoided by watching the animation, and not the red splats.

If there's anything I've learned from zone chat...

-You need 20k+ GS to do this
-Preferred party comp is 5 CW or 5 TR
-Anyone who rolls need gets insta-kicked

Hope this helped. It's the same bull**** everyone spams in game so I can't help but assume it's true.

PS - If you're not 20k+ GS, stop being poor and buy your equips.
Broken mechanics, broken class designs, lack of actual content, and over zealous, bronze-age moderation?

    PS - I quit.
