Crossbow transmute for HR suggestion

As we can see from promo art for upcoming Elemental Evil module. Elemental Cult rangers carry crossbows as well as dwarves in dwarven valley in Icewind module.

So i adress devs and designers to make it live and present us with an oppurtunity to transmute bows in crossbows.

Paladins were promised to have not only maces but swords as a transmute item while devstream, so i hope it is possible to give rangers crosbows....however i do get the point that with this change there should be some changes and hard work made towards animation changes for majority of HR skills.

But it really would pe sweet to have those in arsenal.

Thx for attention.

It's a completely different animation. I don't really see this working. Perhaps a future class will use a crossbow...

That's been the answer to this question every time it comes up. Nope. Not going to happen. All the animations are made for bows. No crossbows.

While it would be nice, I think the animations would need to be re-thought. I think the speed at which you fire the bow during some of your skills, rain of arrows for example, would look a little funny, unless you have some sort of auto loading crossbow. Crossbows are traditionally slow to fire and reload, this would make them look like machine guns. Right now, most other weapons are just reskins, and even they look silly sometimes. For instance when my GWF tries to stab an enemy with a warhammer, but everything would have to changed for a HR to use a crossbow.

hm, any idea what main classes in D&D 5th ed use crossbows as main or secondary weapon ?

A Slingshot would fit the current animation better than a crossbow or sling.

LOL that would actually be a great set. Sports gear: Sling shot for HR, Baseball Bat for GWF, Tennis Racket with dangly tennis ball for DC, Volley Ball/Bowling Ball for CW, Cricket Bat for GF, Boxing Gloves for TR, maybe a hockey stick for SW.

EDIT: Now that I think about it the upside down grip of a ping pong paddle would look better in a SW's hands.

Just a guess, but perhaps some variant of a rogue - like an assassin or marksman. We have 2 variants on the fighter class, so a range-focused rogue wouldn't be that far off.

Sad to say but according to official players handbook and d&d next franshise we are not getting any of a kind in near future.

We could be sertain in other good news: There is Druid, Sorcerer, Monk, Bard and Barbarian waiting us up ahead in future modules.

We already can see Druid, bard and barbarian ingame like npcs and companions.

Also considering same 5th ed rules, crossbows are mostly used by Rangers rater then Rogues.

I wouldn't mind seeing crossbows in the game though I honestly still prefer a traditional bow. If I would forced to use a crossbow, I would transmute out of it right away. Just my personal preference though.

I am always in favour of more options/choice - and a Crossbow as a Cosmetic option shouldn't really be an issue with 'Game Balance'
But as someone alluded to earlier - to implement this they would need to create a completely new set of animations for pretty much all the abilities/stances etc...

However, I guess if they did do this then Crossbow animations could probably be used as a basis if they ever wanted to implement Blackpowder weapons. Maybe in a 'Ravenloft' type Module expansion or Something......

Drow, for one, use crossbows as their ranged weapons.

I'm nor sure but Barbarian maybe the one class useing dual weapons. also according to the lore barbarians are Northerens some kinda...they are taller then regular humans even tall ones. We can see em standing in Icewind Dale module Konig town...also Karzov was a barbarian and even dragonborn leader in Neverwinter is holding two weapons.

Better not mistake em for monks who use fist weapons.

TBH, the basic animations are there - for the Corrupted Dwarf Bolter in IwD Dwarven Valley.

The effort to adapt those to the playable races should be way less than the one for generating them from first principles...

Even so, in order for a player to fire the crossbow quickly enough to match attack speed the animation would look silly. Unless they started giving us some sort of automatic crossbows.

Would make a good idea for a new class. Bard, Druid and Monk seem to be the most popular but as far as being iconic to the class it doesn't really work well with any of them or any class really.

I say once again, Drow. They specialise in crossbows and always apply poison to their arrows. My Ranger went into the Underdark often enough during his D&D days to state this as a fact, having encountered the Drow on those many occasions. Also the many Forgotten Realms novels I read can back me up on this.

Bards actually have all ranged weapon proficiencies (simple+military) in 4e IIRC, and being "iconic" to the class is not a requirement for weapon assignment (see Paladin/Maces).

Indeed nor are Dwarves yet they are the only ones portrayed with X-bows in this game, as is seen in the image posted by the OP.

I'm sorry but I don't see Monks or Druids especially using X-Bows, ever! If anyone should be proficient with an X-bow it would have to be HRs or TRs although the latter are a melee class in this game so giving it to them would be pointless.

I think at this point we're just talking past each other. Drow is not a class, my comments were about giving classes the ability to use these weapons not have individual weapons for each race.

...ummm, this might not be entirely true, Iirithiel. IIRC the Drow Assassins or Huntresses (*coarse whisper* "Easy prey!") indeed use (hand-?)crossbows for their ranged cone attack. My memory might be muddled up there, though.

In what world, do rangers use crossbows?
Sure you can use them, but you can also use a war hammer as a ranger. So why not transmute our blades into war hammers?
