Wild Hunt Rider Question

Few months ago i bought Wild Hunt Rider companion, because some CW forum thread suggested it is best companion for CW.
Yesterday, running tiamat with ACT on, I found it activated only 7 times for entire run (e.g ~15-20 min of fight). In same time I did lots of damage, most of it with AOE spells, hitting lots of enemies all the time (e.g. I was not sitting idle).
So my question is does anyone know if/how wild hunt rider works now or did it ever worked as expected/described.
