I have seen many people try to claim in game and on the forums that Cryptic / PWE does not pay attention to, nor care about the PVP community in Neverwinter Online. Accused them of not adding anything to the game since launch, etc.
I have played since closed beta. I can tell you that at launch, this game only had domination PVP and 2 maps.
Since then, they have added:
20v20 GG map. (can queue as pug or group of up to 5)
They also added GG pvp set of gear at that time.
2 PVP areas and Black Ice Domination in IWD. Once flagged you can even take the fights anywhere on ice wind pass or valley.
They added a stat just for PVP, tenacity and more PVP gear sets. (grim, profound and black ice purified and corrupt)
They increased the frequency of GG 30 minute blocks.
They added PVP campaigns for Dom, IWD and GG. (which include boons, artifacts, titles, gear etc)
They tried to adjust the matchmaking system.
They have adjusted Tenacity at least once, possible more since it was added.
The PVP community wants more, because what we have only whets our appetites and barely touches into the untapped potential of PVP in this game. This game's combat system is my favorite of any MMORPG I have played to date. It's unique, frenetic and fun. I love it.
We all agree we could use some more map, some more game types, more PVP campaigns, better matchmaking, a lobby system, less overall chain cc, more balance, etc etc.
So while we all want more, IMO it's because what we have is just not enough for those of us that love PVP. But if you think they've done nothing, you're wrong. If you think they don't care, you're wrong. PVPers may not be a big number overall, but they do tend to spend some money to be competitive. Not all, but some, just like some PVErs do because they want the best gear and don't want to wait to use it, etc.
But I don't know how anyone can say PWE/Cryptic has done nothing for PVP since launch nor that they don't care about PVP.
People like to exaggerate. All this has been pointed out before, but they seem to have forgotten.
They might concede with you, but will forget again in 2 months when their personal gripes vs. PvP go unchanged.
I will say that although they (Cryptic) tries at some PvP stuff, I feel it is either half-assed or not thought out.
-Next to impossible goals for the PvP campaign. (for legit completion)
- Powers and classes that become beasts due to oversight.
- Abused Leaderboard.
they all just take time, only reason someone would do the pvp campaign not legit which I have seen some guilds do, is if they are impatient and rushing someone through to gear up faster. I've done everything legit, my HR has just about 70 npcs left for GG, 10/10 on domination and just a few triple kills and like 100 kills under 50% health left in IWD. if you spend a little time every day like dailies, progressing something, you will get there, without the need to exploit. I am adamant about being anti-exploitive, it's a video game, if you're gonna cheat because you're impatient, unskilled, outclassed, etc, then why bother even playing? Not sure what one would get out of the game if they feel the need to do that. I enjoy hitting the milestones over time and earning it all, if I felt I needed to exploit or cheat, I'd go do something else.

if this is how you resume things i can do it too for pve
mod 1: they released sharandar and dailies for boons and a new set
mod 2: they released dread ring, a good dungeon even more dailies and boons + a new set.
mod 3: they released a whole new area with tons of fun HE without a timer cuz it's funnier and well 2 new sets.
mod 4: the released 2 skirmishes and tons tons tons of dailies for the fun ! 2 !! with 0 rewards again! awesome you may get lucky with buggy rng and have a drop strike how fun is that? artifact traps to refine all day long, perfect for true pvers
mod 5: ...they released the first raid for the sake of true pve players with 0 rewards just to keep it coherent and 0 ways to choose your party, some lag here and there like the cheese on the pasta and some random freeze. Then a run in circles to kill big chicken ! epic big chickens!
we definitely can say pwe cares about good gameplay and maybe after all this content, pvp may get the next one right?
IWD PVP was just a vehicle for selling pets with overpowered active bonus's in the Zen store. Doesn't matter if they made 2 zones or 20 zones, they were all ruined from the start for real PVP players. Yes they have put some effort into PVP, but IMO their efforts have been misguided and not at all driven by player feedback. We wanted separate queues, instead we got a leavers penalty. We wanted diminishing returns, instead we got tenacity. Some people wanted a leader board, but without separate queues it's worthless, and class balance is now as bad as it has ever been.
Just going to say IWD pvp is almost dead its only use is testing pvp on preview. At best during black ice domination we get 15 people on each side or else the place has about 6 people total at best.
I have never understood why more people don't use IWD PVP. It is a giant PVP sandbox, you can do pretty much whatever you want there. You don't have to do domination or anything. The only thing you can't really do is form single-instance gank mobs, which is a good thing.
You don't HAVE to use companions there, you know.
In one thread we have people complaining that IWD PVP is dead because "there are no rewards", and in another thread we have people complaining that Domination PVP has "too many" rewards so it attracts just the AD farmers and the unskilled scrubs. So, I don't know what would make people happy. Maybe nothing?
Was not talking about PVE at all, but interesting POV on that as well over time. :P
I'm sure everyone has varying degrees of satisfaction / happiness about the game's progression. The main point is that they do add content and they do try to adjust things and make changes. It will never be at the pace that most of us want it at, like I want it all and I want it now, but I am happy that at least they have added things and tried to address issues that the pvp community has expressed discontent with. LOTRO PVP has been on the same 1 zone map since launch and the same monster classes since not long after launch. That goes back to 2007.....Cryptic/PWE looks very PVP attentive by comparison.
I want it all and I want it now, but I know for now whatever Cryptic chooses to add for the PVP community, I am grateful for. If not for the PVP and combat system in this game I would have moved on a long time ago. The PVE imo, is too easy, boring and boss fights are kill boss, deal with adds, repeat. Very few dungeons have boss fights that are more complicated than that. Not having raids and a raid group mechanic is a big social hole in this game imo. But I don't want to digress into the PVE tangent for now.
Best dungeon to date is still Castle Never.
PVP still has a ton of potential long term and I'm still hopeful about its future.
IMO, the "hardcore" PVPers, the people who go to new games only for PVP, should move on. This is not the game for you.
PVP in this game is for the amateurs. The entire design philosophy for the entire game, both PVP and PVE, is that it is for "the amateurs". It's possible to do well in PVP even if you don't know what you are doing. My PVE CW, 20k GS and 30k HP, is on page 100-something of the leaderboard for heaven's sake. This is in the top 10%. And it's a MoF Thaum CW (no Spell Storm, no crazy Renegade buffs) with none of the PVP-specific feats. In what possible "serious" PVP game would a character that is not built or specced for PVP be ranked in the top 10%?
tbh i don´t need 10 differnt maps for PVP, for what?
i also think icewinddale pvp could be more, sometimes i like going there
especially when some nub Tr´s try to get an easy kill by sneeking in your back, ending on the floor, then log out as fast as they can probabaly feeling ashame, thats fun
there is potential in pvp i agree, all what is needed is a little balance
but since cryptic think they have to launch 3 mods in a year there will never be any kind of balance i guess, cause they just don´t seem to have enough people or skill

No one asked for any of that ever. So pvp is a fail resulting from the devs no listening to the players. All we have wanted from the very beginning is balanced classes, solid matchmaking and more domination maps. IF THE DEVS WOULD HAVE DEVOTED EVEN 1/3RD OF THE TIME DEVELOPING WHAT WE ACTUALLY ASKED FOR THAT THEY HAVE DEVOTED TO ALL OF THE GARBAGE NO ONE ASKED FOR PVP WOULD BE WIN TO THIS DATE, INSTEAD OF THE FAIL THAT IT IS.

Not true. Were you here prior to mod3? People DID ask for open world PVP. Of course they also asked for lots of other things too, but open world PVP was one of them. People also asked for better PVP-only rewards. And the devs gave that to them.
Now it turns out when the players said they wanted "open world PVP", what they really meant was "open world gank-the-newbies zone", and the devs wisely foresaw that this might be a problem so they tried to prevent that as much as they could. So THAT is the main reason why open world PVP is considered a "fail", because you can't gank the newbs trying to do their PVE quests.

Apparently not. What is the "Open World PVP" that you have in mind?
And yes there is an entire PVP campaign that is just for PVPing.

open pvp - bigger area with objectives which to help you take advantage over others and with reward...
no open pvp - arena without borders with quests...
off course i dont expect something big like cyrodiil, but i expect pvp "dungeon" atleast

obviously power creep is too big in this game, so its no surprise that extreme simplified open pvp, like here cant work...
as its said PVP is reserved vor PVP-Player in an open area, noone is forced to go there, except he wants PVP-rewards or do PVP campaign
problem is for sure "ganking newbs", don´t know how to handle that, probabaly with a queue sytem and mass encounter like GG but that will be no open PVP, only solution would be a balancing of classes and just get rid of all this overequipped 26k chars
make one good PVP equip as a target to go there, a fancy PVP-Set (make a second/better one if pl enjoy this kind of PVP), and weapon-set -->>>>> with a stebonus thats worth going there, no stones, no enchantement, max profit of tenacity, as ppl who wants to take part with PVE-Set get ripped into pieces --> no advatage, same for everyone-- problem solved, all happy
gg is nothing more than a daily and afterwards u run a dungeon where you get tier 1 pvp gear

i like that idea reworked it for que. open pvp needs a lot more development and resources to work in this game, its obviously unrealistic.

It's a tiny sand box that only allows 30 people in it, many of which are only there to complete PVE objectives and will never set foot in the PVP zone. That's not what anyone asked for.
despite it all, I'm still hopeful for the future and we'll just have to wait and see what Cryptic and PWE do going forward. The thing I miss the most right now, is the open discourse we had during closed beta with the devs. I Feel like the dev staff changed at some point, and drew back from being as engaging with the community as they were back then. That staff and their attention to the beta testers during closed beta were the main reason I paid for the founders pack back then.

"Tried" is the significant word. Elo works everywhere except here, they'll have to explain to the community what was so difficult.

Sounds like you want something like in a FPS game.
i never play fps games, but for sure, there are online rpg games, that have open pvp like this. NWO is action enough to work here too
