Hey guys, I like DL and everything but, you have to admit that DL is really hard to aim even when you use Chains sometimes. Is there another encounter that I can use that provides the near same amount of damage that DL does? I like Searing Light but that only hits in a line which I don't really find that many mobs in a line where I farm for RP and stuff.
I use Divine Glow, Chains and DL in PVE. As you can see, I'm fully loaded for DPS, and I use DG more for debuff and damage than for heals.
These configurations work well for me. Divine DL has a large AOE area so I'm assuming you are referring to Normal/Empowered DL with a smaller area.
I only use Empowered DL on bosses and some elites. One effective way for me is to offer myself as bait and while the boss/elites are attempting to beat the hell out of me, I land my empowered DL and shift away/disengage.
That said, I've over 40k HP and am able to take some hits for this strategy to work. It also takes some heat off my squishy teammates, giving them some breathing space to cast their spells.
This same strategy works to some extent in PVP too though I usually have BtS slotted for added stun/CC.
I use divine glow, divine light, and break the spirit. I don't use chains because I haven't run into a situation yet where mobs can kill me quicker than I can dash to the side (even in Tiamat).
My rotation is divine glow, 3 divine divine light, fully empowered break the spirit, regular divine light, at wills to get back to full divinity, and repeat. The at wills I use are the DOT one (sun something or other. I can't remember its name) and lance of faith.

Nothing hits as hard as DL, unfortunately. Yes, it is kinda tricky to aim when in a party because of ppl making mobs running around, but against bosses or when solo you should have no problem (unless you use some aggro stealing companion, which is why I do not recommend them). Just don't panic and let them come to you, and throw DL under your feet.
Searing light is a good alternative when you have a plenty of mobs there, otherwise I dunno, chains maybe?
I'm a terrible high-pinger and plainly hit nothing with DL, so I chose FF instead - pre Mod5 this had been my fav HoT, now it's my fav DPS... ...full autoaim, slow & DoT in divine mode. Might not hit as hard, but hits. Single target, though...
what's the gs, paragon...
damage in pve, right?
most probably DO. have you took "bear you sins" and/or "fire of gods"?
+ what's your at-wills?
break the spirit.. just my opinion - it's too slow. it dazes, yeah, but for 3-2-1 sec in each next cast in divine. just the time to cast next, so what's the point? +i remember someone's notes that it doesn't give persents of damage as promised. so, break the spirit or FF - FF, definitely.
i've been AC, Righteous, and in lack of DoT's came to - divine glow - bastion (for party - n1, solo - to be sure that pve would be a walk in a park) - sun burst/DL/FF/SL.
in fact... (bear your sins + fire of gods)*chains/DL in divine = lots of dead trash. probably you're DO, so just spam BotS and we have just bosses or elite left.
they're so predictible... it's just really hard to miss DL. but okay, something else. FF/SL/sun burst. 3 sun burst in divine gives a 3 DoT + you can always refresh it. of course, it's not empowered DL, but HoT + DoT
actually, i was too lazy to change skills for dungeon/solo that came to - divine glow - bastion - FF/DL.
when soloing i get memorized - ****, i'm a DD, i need smth instead of bastion. chains/sun burst...
in fact, i just forgot to use it. empowered/divine - in 1-2 minite combat it has been used about 2-3 times.
in short - divine glow for buff/debuff/healing, FF for DOT/buff party, DL/chains for real damage.
//always forget to comparise damage for 3 divine DL + empowered DL and 3 divine FF + empowered FF.
in combats it seemed that they're not so different in damage amount.
The main difference is that DO has BotS at-will that synergizes nicely with bear your sins feat.
AC has that AC increasing (gotta love those abbreviations) class feature and Anointed Army daily, that only lasts til you get 3 hits, but it works wonders against jelly cubes and certain dungeon bosses. And it is better than HoF daily DO has.
AC has BoB at-will that buffs DR, too bad you can't feat it since mod5 (not if you are righteous).
Overall, DO can dps slightly easier, and AC is a bit more tanky.
well, you heard right) Kaelac's guide give you more detailed answer.
let's see.
Prophecy of doom - Exaltation. if i remember that right. PoD is just too hard to use in full strength + single target.
Exaltation ...well, as AC I came through all dungeons with random groups. it's too **** hard to buff DD, buff in time... in PvP, or in guild - maybe, but... well 1-1 DO and AC
annoited action - terrifying insight. very similar, both quite good.
foresight - annointed armor... now... AA 3/3 gave me... 11-12 AC (22 ->34) it's similar to GF of same level. sound good, yeah?
foresight.. well, in persents, 5-6% redusing damage at both. foresight for all party, when heal.
still... virtuous, "have faith" - the same 5%. so...
//and just my opinion, without AA i fell like without pants or armor, of smth else. it defences real good.
Annointed holy symbol - prophetic action. 1-0 AC, though on DC temp HP not always seemed, it much better than ONE ANY attack in a minite.
Hammer - Army... didn't try hammer, as far as i've heard, single target and poor damage.
army... yeah, only three strikes, yet. temp HP. +damage + power to allies + immune to control (it removes one, if affected already.) AC - DO 1-0
but... blessing - BotS.
I do know about buff, about +15% of your power to allies (if feated), I do remember 3% AP per cast, (at 60 lvl, gs ~9500 - 5k+ damage per cast (not bad for at-will)), but it VERY slow. in a quick battle - pvp or boss... despite all good points i changed to sacred flame.
BotS - DoT. so - fire and forgot - you can do smth else, and divinity gaines on it's own. I always spend divinity, very much, very quick, and such DoT... well, i really wonder which at-will is better for righteous DC.
// i've been AC - Righteous, astral fury 5/5, righteous suffering 5/5, bear your sins 5/5, fire of the gods 5/5, avatar 1/1
+ virtuous - have faith 5/5, battle fervor 5/5.
actually, fire of gods - because of luck of DoT. condemning gaze would be more DD choise.
(why... at lvl 60, fire gave... 1200 per tick and 15 sec(?), so... 18k damage in 15 sec, right?
while, gaze is activated at 5th encounter. so - 3 divine DG, empowered DG - we had 4. 1st divine DL - gaze active - 2nd, 3rd + empowered. o'course, matter of practice, but... smth about 5-6k damdage (if not crits). in solo. in party, it would be at least 30k. + 5-6k*3+, because using aoe skill you can apply it to more than 1 target, if i remeber that right.)
so. fire of gods change for condemning gaze. desperate restoration instead of battle fervor. and BotS instead of Blessing.
imho, difference just in at-will, as AC you hard as rock and have time to cast blessing and so.
as DO you cast BotS, gain free divinity, and spend it as fast as you can. with my combat style... i'd have +10-15% to damage.
still, both paragons ARE playable and quite strong.
An interesting side effect of mod5 changes is that Anointed Army is now more useful in PvE. Unlike other persistent effect dailies, a condition exists that allows Anointed Army to end prematurely, allowing you to gain AP as normal when it ends. I'm not sure what the specifics are, but I have noticed my AC gaining AP just a few seconds after casting AA (and not everyone has lost the buff yet). Anyway point is that it doesn't seem to follow the same rules as other persistent effect dailies.
It still can't match Hallowed Ground in the long term damage buff department, but if you're only looking for a short term buff that moves with you then it's a lot better than DO alternatives.

DO = Dies Often
Often is a relative term here.
(I'm playing a RiDO...)
