'Curses!' Scourge Warlock Class Quest

If two party members enter the cathedral, one SW and another class (in my case GWF), upon completion the Scourge Warlock is able to successfully leave the cathedral area via the exit door, but the other party member is unable to interact with the door itself. I was the GWF in this case. Had to use a scroll of teleportation to get back to Protectors enclave.
Also, my party member equipped 'Dread Theft' as an encounter once he was able to unlock it. The visual effects are invisible to both of us. Damage works, sound works, But no purple laser beam. Ever.
