These crashes are so bad it freezes solid in an instant and even when you manage to close the client (after ctrl+alt+del for 5 mins) it's toll taken on my CPU does not alleviate itself (as if it were still running in the background) unless I restart the computer. Anything seems to trigger them, it doesn't matter if you're walking down the street in PE or killing in a dungeon, this has happened to me pretty much everywhere since the previous patch...
Infact, I haven't finished even a single skirm or anything since this started because the game freezes and requires that I reboot or the (any) game takes twice as much to run...
I'm having the same issue as well. I've submitted a ticket, and for the past couple of days the support staff have been helping me, however the problems still prevails. Kudos to the staff actually attempting to help me for so long though.
Anyways, some fixes they recommended that didn't work for me, but might work for you:
-Double check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking some parts of Neverwinter or Cryptic Studios
-Clean boot your PC (turn off all startup programs basically, only have OS operational)
-Run the game as Admin
-Turn off auto-patching, force verify and play in safe mode (in the launcher, there is an "options" tab that lets you configure some things, check the "safe mode" checkbox)
-Check the game compatibility and try different compatibility settings (win 7, win XP service packages, etc)
-Turn your user account control (the pop up box that always asks you whether or not you really want to run a program)
So far those are all the fixes I've been given, so try them out yourself. Like I said, these didn't work for me, but they just might work for you.
Welp, after a week or so I'm consistently seeing this crash occur when the streamer is fired up and textures are loading (much slower than they used to, I might add). For instance, whenever I travel to a new zone or enter a new area, the game freezes like I said above... I've tried to run the CTA this week (straight to helm) and the game runs great until we get into the cathedral, as soon as I walk 2 steps the game freezes EVERY time I've tried it (4 or 5?).
I don't know what they changed but it seems to be causing far more problems than the game used to have... (just look at this forum...)
Cryptic really seems to have a hard time making commits without causing far more bugs than they're fixing (most commits don't fix any bugs so that says a lot as well)...
I'm having similar problems, but they seem to have been slightly reduced.
Here's the deal :
1. Texture bug
I enter the game. 3-5 minutes in, the game will crash without any warning. This happens regardless of the OS I've installed/reinstalled and/or settings I've tried on different PCs with different routers as well as a step by step connection
To make things more clear, this isn't happening only to a particular set of individuals, but to many people who are not at the same/similar geographic positions nor use the same network to connect to the servers of Crypticstudios.
Since all people who have this problem possess a variety of different machines, it' a loading texture bug circa JAN 2015. Conclusion : Corrupted (inadequate) data files server-side regarding the previous two patches/maintenance. The clients can't load/receive data properly, resulting in increased CPU usage, thus resulting in freezing(CPU) and ultimately disconnecting.
2. Lag problem with chat?! The game starts to lag in intervals of 10 to 15 minutes. In the past three days there were no LAG-based disconnects on my PC during the LAG-intensive sections.
- The disconnects, if any, happen occasionally in intervals of 30 minutes.
- SUPER-LAG starts after I use CHAT or GM Help options, strangely enough. This leads to 10 sec disconnect.
Despite the fact that LAG exists regardless of the use of CHAT option in-game, the CHAT use significantly increases the lag/ping problem in which case I can't use chat at all.
It's possible that CHAT has it's own server or that the developers have tweaked or have forgotten to properly configure it, but for me the LAG-intense factor now is the use of CHAT and I've submitted a ticket regarding this problem, hopefully in a valid section. I still didn't receive any support, yet.
Conclusion : The chat, if it's using it's own server, produces extra LAG on top of the already present LAG provided by level3/cogentco/AT&T, resulting in almost instantaneous disconnect.
>>> My question is : Is chat using it's own server/service that's outside the game domain?
True Neutral
Left the Game due to heavy Damage Control & Missing Spanish Language

I'm sure they have separate servers for streaming and IRC(chat), I'm not positive if they've added/removed boxes from them but somebody has made a commit that's corrupting communication between client/server. Also, come to think of it, that timer is pretty **** close to the problem I've been having too, game runs fine but after I go somewhere/time passes, BOOM, frozen...
Long shot question here on your crashes. Have you tried turning off multicore rendering? It seems buggy contributing to some peoples texture load problems, and some peoples Tiamat lag. With a trac record like that for bugginess I wonder if it could be related here as well.
