How Can I Disable Auto Mute When Mizimizing the Client?

Hello everybody,

I have a very annoying problem. Whenever I minimize the game it autmaticly mutes the game. I checked all of the settings on "Audio" tab and there is no option for this Auto-Mute. I don't want my game to be muted when minimized cause I'm usually multitasking while waiting for the Q (surfing on the net etc) But I cannot here the Queue ring when I minimize the game. I either end up missing it or I constantly do alt + tab (which really annoys me -.-) I want to disable this ridicious feature. How do I do it?

You can't. A long time ago it did not mute, but they changed that for some inexplicable reason.

But this is just ridicilous. The game is forcing us to look at the screen like a ****** while waiting for the queue. There should be a way to change that...

Use dual monitors, extended display. Drag neverwinter window to the secondary monitor, Problem solved. You will hear queue pop. Makes sense if you already have another monitor and have space for it.

    Hello everybody,

Please say so if you agree with me. I'm sick and tired of this auto muting when i minize the game. I causes me to miss my queues all the time. Most of the time it's not clear how long you have to wait before the queue pops up and sometimes it take more than 10 minutes. When i minimize the game while waiting it automaticly mutes the game and i miss the queues. I don't want be forced to look at my screen like zombie while waiting for the queue to pop up. I want to do some other stuff like surfing and watching videos, chatting or whatever. This is very annoying.

Devs, please put an option to disable Auto Mute after minimizing the game.

have you tried using windowed mode rather than full screen mode? (I'm asking blindly as I'm not at a screen atm) but I recall an option to do that.. might be what you're lookin for

I'm already using it in window mode but. I looked at every option and every menu. There is nothing to disable auto muting...

It was also my topic and it was a question (I assumed I actually could by then) I know there is no option to do that now so the main in creating this topic was to ask for this functionality to be added into the game.

I would like to see this too, but doubt it ever happens. :(

Not going to happen. First, the publisher doesn't want you to minimize the game, they want you to play it. Second, the muting isn't something the game does. Windows is responsible for the muting. And they can't change that.

I'll elaborate on this a little.
There is a difference in the way windows handles sounds from active and inactive applications. To put it simply, look at it as 2 different audio streams. 1 processes active programs, 1 processes inactive programs. For an inactive program to continue to produce sounds as if it were active, it has to utilize both methods at the same time. Programs like WMP, Winamp and other audio/video playback software do so, but it's usually not done in other programs, especially games. The reason is that for games to utilize this option the game has to stay fully active without being visible. This means that any graphic changes such as people running through your minimized screen will be processed by your CPU instead of your GPU. If modern games did this you wouldn't be able to do much when you alt-tab out of it because the pressure on your CPU would become huge. If you're just above the minimal game requirements It would feel like you're sitting behind computer with a P1 processor when you minimize the game.

Of course it can be done. I've been told a Blizzard game does have the ability to stream sounds while minimized, but that's one of the few games that do so and it takes quite a bit of work from both devs and the client's computer. Now consider that the average "modern" computer in western households is a basic Intel dualcore@about 2-2.5GHertz and you'll understand why not many games even consider doing something like this.

Windows actually does that for full screen applications. I can still keep my sound on the games i use in window mode (Just like I do with Neverwinter) Windows doesn't mute the games/applications that are running in window mode actually. I doubt the auto-muting is windows' fault in this scenario as I use Neverwinter in windowed mode.

this is plain wrong. please don't respond to people if you dont know what you are talking about. there are other games out there that play audio while minimized or when you have task switched. there are even games that have option to allow "muting in background" or something with simiar wording.
