Need/Greed Loot etiquette question

I’ve read similar posts, but they seem to conflict with each other aboot what the proper loot etiquette is. The other day, during a pick up group in Shores of Turen, the party leader stated: choose Need – only use Greed during epic dungeons. I was mildly confused by that. If four people choose Need and I pick Greed, does the Random Number Generator algorithm evenly decide? Or does it assign a higher weight (priority) to Need than Greed? Personally, I only pick Need if the equipment is epic and my class, or specials such as a campaign item.

Have you noticed I didn’t use acronyms nor on-line gaming slang? You’re welcome.

    When playing with random people I always pick need unless the item is BoP and I don't need it.
    If you pick Greed and someone else picks Need , only the people who picked Need are taken into account.

    We've been asking for better loot distribution options since the game launched. So yeah.
