Is it just me or do other people have this same issue? When i cast my spells the character does the animation however the spell is not activating. For example - rain of arrows - character shoots to the air - no rain of arrows effect is cast, the spell doesnt go on cd. Thats not a big issue however considering the cast time of hunter aoe spells its quite annoying and its rather obvious this is not intended.
From my observation i noticed that this often happens with using abilities close to their maximum range, and more often with the use of mouse rather than with the double click of keyboard.
So does anyone else has this issue, and therefore should it be reported as a bug or is this rather my client problem?
I suspect this is caused by latency. I've only had it happen if I would move after casting/deploying encounter power, meaning that the server has registered my move as canceling encounter power that my client has registered as already cast.
The way I avoid this problem is to simply not move immediately after using encounter power, but instead wait for half a second or so before moving.
Yes it is latency. I've had this problem in Tiamat when someone is using lag-inducing powers. Extremely frustrating as I am using SotF for most of my recovery...
I seem to have this problem with thorn ward, and only thorn ward.
I will do the casting animation and then nothing will happen. I make sure to not move at all while casting. I still haven't figured it out but it's extremely annoying. The cast time is long enough that it becomes a waste of a few precious seconds.
do think it is about latency, almost without noticing players end up waiting just enough for the cast to come off, even if this time is just a little longer than the real casting time because of ping. Noticed a good setoff is the audio effects, hearing the same (casting) sound over and over and how long it takes before your char is free to move on helps against unwillinglly cancelling powers
hardest cast for me is ForestGhost, its very easy to dodge it off and the sound effect is way shorter than the real casting to know when it has really kicked in
There are two main causes for encounters not going off even though the animation and sound will sometimes activate.
The first and probably the most common cause is latency between your local client and the server.
Something else that falls under this category is local game client lag on your machine caused by a processing bottleneck. For example, if the Tiamat encounter causes your framerate to drop, you will see encounter errors much more.
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do for this issue other than experiment with graphic settings and console commands. In my experience this doesn't ever have the effect I desire, but that's just me. I have heard of some having moderate success with this method.
You could upgrade your hardware/computer and notice a considerable difference. Add to that a better network connection with more bandwidth and it gets even better, but even taking these steps might not give you the performance you're looking for.
The second cause is the spam button type playstyle. I know it's hard to wait for that RoA animation to go off before pressing shift/dodge when a demon is winding up to smack you. If you press dodge too quick you will cancel your encounter. This goes for all encouters with animations. This creates a similar effect to the latency issue.
It takes patience and practice to get good at not causing these issues with the spam style.
well careful about movement during casting, thron ward, rain of arrows and split the sky are ground targets areas in ranged stance which requires 2 clicks, so 1 to bring it up, second click to confirm the location of where u are centering that aoe skill. So I know if u want it really quick be sure your cursor is pointing exactly where u want to drop it and hit whatever hot key you have assigned to cast it twice fast. That for me makes those cast a lot faster in my experience. Forest Ghost seems to be the most quirky overall and there are times I know I hear it, I see it, but I moved too fast before it was done casting and interrupted the casting myself. Other things can effect these like being pushed away by a DC or CW or being proned, or stunned etc during cast. None of them are 100% instant, but the 3 ranged AOEs can def be a lot faster if u follow the double tap method I have found works for me when I roll with those encounters.
Nah the closest thing to truth seems the latency issue - i am playing at minimum graphics setting yet i am still getting the game freezes and fps drops. To those that mentioned moving - yes i am familiar with that - the issue is that when i stop moving and start casting right after it it activates animation, most likely as suggested - server got both end of movement and casting at close times because of latency, therefore started activating the spell but than was interrupted instantly and missed sending the casting stop command.
I know for a fact that it's not my hardware, it's not me moving too soon or spamming buttons. The closest thing could be latency but I hardly ever have issues with my broadband connection in general.
The only thing I can think of is that the ground icon will highlight as an acceptable casting zone but some how the game bounces back as negative. I've seen this fake cast happen on flat surfaces though. I can't seem to create this issue at will. It just happens. Otherwise it could be the ever so hiccup in latency.
Least I can say is it's not just me loosing my mind over thorn ward.
My fake casting produce the sound as well so its not an indicator
what I mean is wait for the sound effect to "finish" so you know when you are free to dodge away so you dont cancel your encounter, if what happens with you is that you cast, do nothing and the power still doesnt come off, it is a different kind of issue; closest thing I can think of is lag spikes, like when you move to one place and the server rubberbands you back to where you were
Noticing quite a few having to tap the AoEs to place the marker, there is an option that allows you to release the power on key release; this means that you press the key and the marker comes up on where you are pointing and remains free to move as long as you keep that key pressed, when you release the key, the power comes off where the marker is; just a single tap, Somewhat difficult to adapt but it improved my casting time enormously. if when having the key pressed you realize you dont want to cast that AoE, just shift to cancel it without releasing the key
I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the action on my monitor is never quite in sync with that on the server. The most common form of premature ejaculation for me is with enemies moving away at maximum range. Yesterday during PvP I finally caught up with this especially annoying TR. After going toe to toe with him for a while, with him just about ready to die, he runs off. I swear, I snagged him three times with Constricting Arrow and nothing, he just kept running, and CA kept reappearing on my console. He disappears, I go into Forest Ghost to give chase. He reappears, still at max range. I tag him again. Nothing. I rush in to finish him off and he hits me with Daze. And one shots me a split second later.
I do not think that that slide bar in Graphics is the way to go if you have an Nvidia graphics card. You might go to Options and fool around in Advanced. Something I did helped A Whole LOT with the lag. Frame rate stabilize turned on. Reduce CPU/GPU usage turned off. In Display, vertical sync, off. I am considering getting a different card, altogether. The game apparently has a problem with ALL Nvidia cards.

The most important thing in life is to be yourself. Unless you can be Batman. Always be Batman.
Yea got the same setup for pve and they all have this issue.
