Have the devs ever reconsidered the Change Appearance costs?

Since I read somewhere that they'd recently looked at the pricing of certain things (companions and mounts I believe), have they ever reconsidered the cost for changing one's appearance?
51k AD (at level 60) to change a single item is pretty... steep. (In fact it takes two days of AD farming, provided one doesn't get lucky and find something to sell on the AH)

The current cost completely destroys the ability to customize one's looks at the lower levels as well, since it completely eliminates the rewards you get for daily AD quests in that level range. And I suspect a lot of people are simply going to be willing to spend that kind of currency on an item that will be replaced in a level or two, three at most. (Especially when you combine this fact with how fast one levels in Neverwinter)

I realize it's meant to be an AD sink, but I simply can't imagine it being an effective one (and I would suspect some datamining will confirm that).
Wouldn't it be far more effective at it's job if the costs were lowered to several hundred AD at the lower levels, and several thousands at 60 (rather than a whopping 51k)? Or even better yet, changed to gold?
As City of Heroes' original development team I imagine they would know quite well how much in-game currency players are willing to spend on cosmetics, as long as the prices are fair.

You wont change your appearence daily. You want new app maybe once a week, a month etc. (I myself am perfectly happy with my appearance, I woudnt change it, because it would be just worse) Price is just fine as it is, 2 days salvage is not an unbeliavable cost. Leveling from 1 to 60 takes a week at most.
I dont think, that it is meant to be an AD sink, it's more likely a needed utility, and I guess for that, the price is about right.
What we need is maybe a lot more gear to transmute ours, and I do not mean fashion items. (like arcane wanderer, dragonslayer stuff in WB)
My story is truly a grand tale! Of course, any story about me is going to be grand simply by virtue of the main character.

You need a leadership army, OP. Start working on leadership. Start exchanging AD for zen to buy more character slots. Keep at it. You want lots of toons running lots of leadership tasks because eventually you do get to a point where it really is just 2 days of salvage and that's it. I'm still about where you are though myself. People talk about this like it's just 2 days of salvage and it's not much, but to me that means 50k AD, which to me, means a lot of time trying to find things to salvage, probably more than 2 days. Don't even think about transmuting things that don't come with free appearance change right now. You'll waste a lot of AD just for a cosmetic change. Instead, invest whatever AD you can manage to make into making more AD; buy more character slots and level leadership.

Just hold on to any nice pretty things you get for now. Save them for when you can actually reasonably afford transmutes. That brings me to a fun question: has anyone ever compiled a list of all the cool looking items you can get for all the classes? I'm especially interested in things you might get while leveling as quest rewards that you can't even find again later on during the endgame content. There's a cool looking cloak that can drop from Hexbane in the Sea Caves for instance.

Edit: for some reason I read that thinking you were a newbie. Then I re-read it. You know what's up. I agree the cost is nuts, but I think that probably a lot of people use it once they can afford to.

Leadership grinding is too boring for me.

Hehe, no worries - I have quite a few little leadership drones, though I didn't go overboard with them either (11 characters, well 12 if you count the level one standing in the tutorial zone because I'm contemplating rerolling him because of the name).
I don't know what's the max amount of characters one can have, but I'm sure some of the hardcore farmers have stumbled onto the cap long ago. xD

It's just that I have a hard enough time affording anything even with those to even consider paying such huge sums to change the look of one item. I guess the message is "power level to 60 and ignore the feature completely until you have endgame armor". Which is probably going to be never for me.
On the bright side, unlike some MMOs all the default stuff looks nice enough, so I can live without an option to transmute.

I don't know about weapon/armor transmute costs but what really annoys me is each patch I have to remake my character completely ,with appearance change NPC, even if I want to simply change my character's hair color.

This is something that I agree.

If they're going to increase the cost of the appearance change (I'm pretty sure the AMA was indirectly talking about that and the renaming token) they better implement a barber shop that works for Gold or a cheap amount of AD, just like there are in the other games that have the expensive costs of the appearance change.

Now about the thread... yea, I also agree that the transmutation cost is kinda expensive. Maybe if it was 50% of the current price people would use it more frequently, and it'd be something more casual and less of a whale thing.

That is a good idea. Hair dye!

I spent over a million on transmute nonsense. 300k alone for just 2 hellfire armor transmutes.

Here is what happens each time I try to adjust my apperance lol And I don't have an old character model on my SW since those didn't exist as an option already when SW class went live.

What kind of parts does it think your SW is trying to use?

Well, they did reduce the transmute cost once already, so I don't know if you're likely to see another reduction. (And that was before the advent of free-transmute items!)

51k AD is a sizable amount per piece of gear that up until now made me uninterested in the whole transmute thing. So up until I made 10m/month I couldn't justify the costs. You get get t2 pieces for less than that now.
