I saw the exact opposite. All the 5x5 failed. All the heads getting damaged the same, and all the heads 70% alive after third cycle. Everyone playing by the book, using gems and all. But rock-solid dragon heads, pretty much unharmed.

I am very sceptical, having had the precise opposite experience. I earned my offhand and cloak in a couple of days, and most of the kills were in the second head phase too.
5x5 is too vulnerable to idiots. Heck, get a GF or two in a group, and that particular head will lag badly behind the rest, due to lack of DPS. Travel time between the heads means it's quite hard to recover from a screwup with 5x5- and they happen far more often.
I had pretty much the same experience as tbhdk2. The vast bulk of my wins were Tactics groups. I'll admit zergs are getting better (likely because they hijack every instance so better players are doing them) but I'm still seing around a 50% fail rate. A gf in group really is not a problem. You do need a few DPSers but outside of that the 100% uptime on attacking, lack of random mobs drawn in, and no DPs lost moving fromplatform to platform really adds up. At best we cleared a dragon with 3 once. Admittedly they were 3 dedicated DPS toons but having one low DPs in group does not much make a difference. Additionally a strong group in phase2 will often break to a weaker one if they have a lead on their own head. I prefer blue and green for this reason. If you land a high DPS party you can play support for one phase and still kill your own.
