So with the fix going live on SoD some testing of the change was in order. All in all the tracking of damage seems to work well, although Smoke Bomb no longer triggers the effect.
However that is small comfort as at the same time the protection on stealth regeneration no longer works. I noticed having more trouble then previously restealthing on test runs. At first assumed it had to do with the timing of no longer using SB trigger it on a new mob at the end of stealth. After paying more attention on who and when to paint this did not seem to be the case. And sure enough subsequent testing confirms that SoD no longer gives protection when regenerating stealth bar.

afaik, Smoke activation never triggered SoD, you could activate SoD with smoke by smoke->stealth so the damage tick will proc during stealth.
Also from what I saw the SoD protection from damage also never worked.

I hoped they fixed it in the recent SoD fix but they didn't so I've already posted a bug report few days ago:
