Constant crash straight to desktop, no warning then Error 36: A file was locked that

Error 36: A file was locked that could not be open for writing.
thats what i see now on the installer after it has checked every single file and is ready to open the game. This only started showing up after my 20th crash in a little over 2 hours. always happened while i was refining my cloak, which probably has no relevance, but i thought i would mention it. once again the crashes are completely unexpected without warning and half the time the cryptic fatal error box doesnt show up afterward.
thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this and all other matters that are causing difficulties in this patch, we all appreciate what you do.
