I downloaded the game awhile back but I was never able to play it due to RL responsibilities. Now I want to give the game a go. My only question is how soloable is this game?

Very, you can level up to 60 and do campaigns solo, dungeons, skirms and PVP require parties.
can solo your way to 60, skirmish's will need 4 others to que for it usually (can party up and do it, but hardly anyone does)
dungeons require players - however they to can be solo'd if you are experienced enough (wouldn't worry until your doing a second toon or you out level content)
their is alot of guides on the forums to help you with your class on what encounters are good etc as well if you are ever stuck.
That's just the thing. I play at some odd hours so teaming up with anyone may not not be possible so that's why I want to make sure the game can be soloed before I get into it.
Yup.
Then you'll be able to Solo the Endgame, except Dungeons, PvP and Skirmishes.
And Skirmishes are really designed with PUG's in mind. Short, sweet, and no pre-made grouping required. The Solo Players' Multiplayer.
So unless you are in love with bleeding edge PvP (a love it or hate it proposition in this Game) or Dungeon Crawling (only a tiny portion of the total Content) then you need never worry about Guilds, Parties, or Pre-Mades.
You can even get End-Game Gear through Skirmishes, Heroic Encounters (big, open world fights), and completing Campaigns (chained together and repeatable missions that form a cohesive whole).
Hope this answers your question.

Good. I'm just looking to do quests and adventure the world. I like doing dungeons but it won't kill it for me if I can't.
The campaigns have "lairs", which are basically mini-dungeons that can be soloed. Certain classes certainly solo better than others, however, (GWF, CW, and SW come to mind). Your choice of companion can also have a big influence on your play experience.
Be sure to also speak to Lord Neverember and Rhix in Protector's enclave, as they grant extra bonus quests for taking part in certain content.

The foundry also contains many good stories for solo players of almost any level.
I disagree, the foundry is an abysmal pit that has no redeeming value. And yes, I have played many of the "Good" foundry missions that purport to have a good story, and I wish I hadn't.
But the foundry can be a decent place to get XP in a crunch, however it is usually not necessary since there is so much XP to be had by simply playing the game.
I'm just looking to solo like I did in EQ2. I'm taking a break from EQ2 due to my disagreement with the way they seem to treat some players. I just want a game that I can enjoy and don't have to get grouped to be able to enjoy the game.

Stick to the various campaigns and their sets of dailies, (typically 2-3 quests in the open world and 1 lair), then. Make sure to keep on top of the boons that you can unlock by participating in said campaigns, as well.

Okay. I played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 and I'm more or less looking for an experience similar to that.
Oh.
Oh, my.
No.
No, you will not find this experience like that at all.
As an MMO it is more Social than hard core Multi-Player, but it has none of the depth, story telling, and imagination of the Baldurs Gate series.
It's FUN, don't get me wrong.
It's GOOD, in it's own way.
Just not Baldurs Gate FUN.
Or Baldurs Gate GOOD.
Think more "Revenge of the Sith" than "Empire Strikes Back".
But at least it ain't "The Phantom Menace"

F2P is an illusion, noting more - in order to fund the development and maintenance of the game, there has to be a sufficiently large incentive for a sufficient number of players to spend sufficient amounts of money. Those players are what the game really depends on - the freeloaders are really not significant in the business sense, except to artificially inflate the player numbers. (Well, OK, I admit that without the "free" players, the paying players would have a harder time finding groups and so on).
The thing - complaints about "cash grab" and so on are just silly ... of course Cryptic/PWE will set things up so that there are incentives for players to spend money on the game - otherwise the game simply would not be financially viable. If they only relied on cosmetic stuff, the income would probably not be sufficient - that why they offer people to pay for convenience - pay for bags, banking slots, respecs, faster mounts and so on - sure, you can do without that stuff, but the game just becomes more enjoyable if you are willing to spend a reasonable amount of money on it.
Just accept it as the cost of playing the game - if you are not willing to pay, then your complaints don't really count, as far as I am concerned.
The game allows you to play any part for free and pretty easily too for the single player content. I initially only planned to play solo and will say that you're missing out if you don't play with others in dungeons and don't join a guild. It's of course your choice though. Do note that you will barely make any AD solo unless you have a leadership army, that's where most of your gear comes from than you can sell on the ah or salvage. It will also be hard for you to get a weapon/armour enchantment and you won't be able to get an armour set. If you left EQ2 because of how they treat player, let me tell you that I think it's pretty bad here imo. If you do just play solo or not caring to ever reach BiS then it possibly won't affect you that much unlike me who has seen everything they have done for a long time and constantly lowered the rewards for players and ignored issues.
Do note that when they started doing campaigns, they artificially prolonged it by forcing you to redo the same tasks over and over and over. After the 8th time of doing sharandar, I found doing 1 of 3 areas didn't slow me down with the coffers for sparks but hated doing the area a tiny bit less. Thankfully the other areas aren't as much of a pain.
Also another thing to note, if you plan on buying from the zen store booster backs or lockbox keys, note that the drop rate is ridiculously low that it's not really worth doing. Better to buy what you want from the AH.

The main reason I like to play solo is because my ours of play not at any one time. Sometimes very early in the morning. Other times during it alls depends on when I have time available to play but I never know when that will be. In EQ2 I joined a guild but there was no pressure as to how I wanted to play. I spent most of my time doing quests and just adventuring in the world at large. I got my armor from brokers, marketplace, or had other players make what I needed. Oh, and drops. Is it any different in this game?

Not played EQ2. Pre mod 1 it was pretty much all boe so you can buy anything, although they also allowed you to give you a choice of t2 sets from the chest. Post mod 1 most of the stuff became bound, although for the most part it was all inferior anyway. Although currently you can get unbound draconic gear from this module. A lot of farming comes from doing mp content, such as rhixs/lord neverembers dailies such as daily dungeon/skirmish/pvp etc, salvaging epic gear you want want that is bound or selling epic gear that is unbound on the AH. Although personally because things have been bound post mod 1 and pre mod 1 stuff became naturally devalued I rely on many leadership toons to make my AD instead of running content. There is black ice gear you can get for free doing open world stuff and farming black ice if you can reach the 13k gs requirement and 3 boons from one campaign (that part being the easy option).
The ai isn't really intelligent in this game and the difficulty is pretty easy for solo content over all, though I guess the same could be said for mp content now that most players are over geared for the content. There's a lot of content you miss out on if you don't do mp stuff though (currently 15 mp dungeons excluding the gauntlegrym ones). Generally they're more interesting to repeat over dailies. it doesn't really matter when you queue for the mp content, though I'm flexible atm so idk if more hours are more dead, though that does happen within guilds themselves depending on the playtime of those players. I'll say that I find the multiplayer content more interesting than the SP content even if I've had issues with the rewards since mod 1, but I don't really like how they've done the SP stuff . Levelling to 60 is alright though for the first time. It is fairly quick to reach level 60 though.
There are some ways to earn ad solo such as making lesser fey/dragon hoard enchantments you farm in the campaign once you're level 60 for a profit, rp items from those enchantments (though that will change if they do make the drops bop as they are on the test server), selling the tomes needed for the tyranny of dragons 4th and 5th boon (though that will go down in price next module as drops are being increased since they can drop form the skirmish and dungeon and less people will need them eventually).
Most of the gear come from primarily dungeons, some for seals that you get from dungeons, some low levelled stuff from vendors, some for AD from vendors that are overpriced that you want to consider as not part of the game and some stuff from professions. The lower levelled profession stuff is unbound, gemmed shirts/pants are unbound which you could get people to make them for you, I've seen people ask for an egg a while ago but the crafter seems to make a loss from doing that now. There's a new profession to make rings/belts/neck coming up, you need expensive tools or buy the unbound gemmed version from the AH and then craft the bounded better version after maxing the profession if you want that gear.
Having a lot of leadership toons will make you a lot of ad, if you're in it for the long run and have a lot of characters, you can make so much, but it is boring and takes time.
One more thing, in some dungeons there are other areas to explore that have extra chests, but most people skip it in order to finish quicker since they find the other areas not worth the effort.
Yes you can solo in NWO or easily find groups for dungeons. Currently you do not need more then 5 people fro any content notwithstanding the upcoming 25 man Tiamat encounter.

As frish stated work on leadership will take a while but a steady source of AD is needed.
There are a lot of "optional" parts in dungeons but 99.9% of groups will not do them due to basically no reward. One "optional" in Temple of the Spiders is huge, others are just a very small side area.

PSSSSS You can get almost the Best in slot gear or even best in slot gear solo with the way encounters are set up however the drop rates require grinding but since your from EQ you will not have an issue with that.
On a different note ....Not to derail your thread...but I think Frish and I know myself and others would love to have group of people play with that are brand new to the game.
I am pretty sure we would create characters to level up etc at the same rate. It is just hard for some of us not to twink.
forgot about those lol...it is early and and I still drunk...all I need in those is someone to break the grab. LOL and it really depends fast I am burning the boss.

Not just that...but when you have a dress wearing class able to tank any boss there are issues.
I know that feel, you want to wear high heels to go with said dress, but they wreck your feet and it makes it harder to manoeuvre especially with aggro. Such issues are just a pain to deal with ):
I'm new and have been playing solo. I'm not a power player, but I inspect allot other players charactors just to get an idea of how I'm doing compared to others, and feel like I'm doing alright. I don't have an MMO background, so it taking me a while to figure things out and get comfortable, but I'm having a great time.

If you work or speak for a f2p game developer, I am afraid that developer can be sued for false advertisement.
The highlight is really the group content.
That said the server has decent population at most hours. Grouping should not be a problem. Good luck and enjoy,
