I believe that the combat advantage bonus is a value derived from your combat advantage stat, sort of like how power provides a damage and healing bonus.

Far as I know, combat advantage is just that.. it means your target has a blue edge on his ground circle facing you, and you get a damage bonus as a result. (This circle is normally white, but a player sees his facing section turn blue when he/she has CA.) CAB from pets impacts that damage bonus.
I'd guess whatever pet you are talking about that gives CA.. apart from the obvious of getting on the other side of your opponent for you, it must put some sort of negative perception modifier on the target, or maybe a daze, thus granting CA.
The ones that give CAB are usually 1% or 2%, and I can't say how effective that actually is. Cuz I don't know.

I had a rather different idea. I thought of the two more like a critical Strike and Critical Severity. CA is your chance of getting CA and CAB is the boys damage you get once you've procced CA... If that makes sense

That can't be the case - the way you get combat advantage is by having you and an ally on either side of an enemy - there is no "chance" in that calculation, (I'm not counting feats or powers/abilities that give you combat advantage for this purpose).

BioShrike, you are correct in that there is no chance factor. However, I know for certain there are powers that grant allies CA on a target (as you said,) and would not be surprised to find that a pet can do it with a power or active bonus. (Would like to know which ones if there are. )
In the latter sense, it is as CryptFoundation suggests. It isn't chance, but both factors can be increased, and the first begets the second.
You are both right.
Of course, looking back on your posts I think I am reading some of them wrong. CA stat is what determines the CA Damage... CA Bonus modifies that, (although I am not sure if it makes 160% 162%, or if it works some other way.)

Yep, but also consider that most tooltips in NW are misleading, if not plain wrong. Most of the time the difference between CA and CAB is a typo.
Combat Advantage is a state of damage like critical strike and deflection. It provides a boost in damage when you flank your target such as attacking from the sides or behind. Its damage that can be damage situationally manually by your position unlike critical strike and deflection, and isnt affected by any stats on when it will apply.
Combat Advantage bonus increases the damage provided by attacking in Combat Advantage.

Combat Advantage is a situation when you attack an enemy that's not "paying attention" to you - it focuses on the tank and you flank it, you're in stealth, etc. It's literally combat advantage over the enemy and it results in you doing more damage to it. Combat Advantage Bonus increases the bonus damage that you deal when you have Combat Advantage.
Hope it makes sense

You both seem to have gotten it right - thanks for the clarification! I was having mental trouble with the concepts myself!

lets make it simple:
COMBAT ADVANTAGE is the bigger trap stat of this game.
it does not increase your damage when CA is on. (should be 1% and not 0.01% like actually is)
general rule:
all items, stats, companions that gives you flat % of CA dont work.
Lantern instead (those item with a number near combat advantage) does apply the right 1% every 100 of said stat.
This is such rampant issue in this game, things not functioning incorrectly or not at all.
As a player with a new-ish Mod4 char (SW) whos build relies heavily on Combat Advantage, I'm gutted as I only just recently learned about issues. Perhaps, with Mod5 we will get a fix... ? Who knows *shrugs*

"beckylunatic" Gateway AH should have column headers to sort by buyout, bid, end time, quantity, etc. These disappeared iirc with the module launch. It's obnoxious.

100% wrong.
Everything about combat advantage is working correctly.

Yup. I tested it this morning to see the impact of Aspect of the Pack with 500 normal Rapid Shot hits and 500 crits and results absolutely match Kaelac 's analisys. It must be remarked tough that CA works differently on normal hits than on crits. My results this morning where 28% more damage on normal hits and 14% more on crits, which are within 1% of the theoretical calculation according to Kaelac's model.
Edit: these numbers are due to my build, basic CA will give you 15% more dmg on normal hits and the equivalent of 15% crit severity on crits.
