Is anyone else having an issue actually starting the game?

I am and I am wondering if my lap top simply won't run the game anymore??

1st you did not identify if the issue related to latency or FPS

Step 1&2 for loading faster & having better FPS , also make sure you got decent amount of ram

Step 3 to the end for trying to diagnose & Fixing Latency if you are from Europe

1. Launcher Loading Faster: Enable the Fast Launch from the options window helps a lot in loading Client Launcher faster
   
   
2. Better FPS: Enable the Safe Mode --> that sets your graphics settings to the very lowest so your FPS should be very very good , if your FPS is still high then Buy another Laptop or add newer Graphics Card to your desktop and move the game to that machine if you got one at your residence
   
   
3. Use the Europe proxy from Client launcher options for patching and game playing
   
4. You can add this game's console command onto the client from the options windows to use Europe Proxy 2 by default here is the command: -SetProxy eu2.proxy.crypticstudios.com 80
   
5. It would be good too to clear the DNS cache by opening cmd.exe in admin privilege and typing the command ipconfig /flushdns
   
6. Also make sure your router & windows firewall or any other 3rd party firewall software to bypass the game ports that are in range of 7000-7500 .. For the router too if you are with other members on the broadband it would be useful to activate your QOS to make the game at top priority if the game ports are being used by your IP/Mac Address however you gonna set it up
   
7. If you have done all of the steps above and it did not work, I would advice you to try trace path your packets and check if they exceed 150ms by opening cmd.exe privileged by typing this command tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
8. Your last resort would be using a gaming VPN though it might not solve the issue if the latency issue is from your ISP

A day or two ago (either when or within a day of when you posted this) I was having issues logging on too. I also use a Laptop; a Toshiba Satellite. It worked itself out after a day, though, so maybe yours will too?
