Tyranny of Dragons story progression

Ok, I read all the quest descriptions, lore in journal etc. The story in the new campaign was quite good, there were reasons why we did all the quests, there was some logic in the enemy's action. Until i finished the campaign and got the quest Portal to Tuern.

NPC told me that "now we now that the portal to Tuern will be in IWD".

But my character never heard anything about IWD. Last info was that the Cult is trying to do something in Whispering Caverns and after beating the dracolich we saw that somebody is trying to open portal to Tuern (it is not always hearable, the animation is very strange).

Did I miss something? :)

    Yeah I thought that was very strange too , just to randomly at the very end of the campaign add a couple of quests in IWD , obviously it is there so that people have to play previous content in order to get into the new Skirmish and Dungeon.

    I figured this was just put in this way so you couldn't just jump into the new content without even touching the old content. Pure gameplay reasons, not really any lore reasons. But I like icewind dale since its a wintery place that feels vast and mysterious, so I'm cool with it.

    Also gives new characters a reason to go there.
