I have spent the better part of 2-3 hours per day since mod 4 released doing nothing but farming Venfithar in Rothe Valley. I am looking for an artifact belt of course, like everyone else there. I have done it on both my CW and my SW, and in better than 75% of the cases, receive a great success result. I have racked up nearly 1500 coins between characters. We are talking about easily 150 great successes. I have received 4 dragon bones, and 4 pairs of gloves, and zero artifact belts.
I understand that the drop chance is low by design, but this low of a drop chance only serves to frustrate players, not encourage them to continue playing the content. These belts are going to be BIS for each and every player in the game, should be more readily attainable than this, considering the massive investment needed to level them up, which honestly, is probably outside the means of a good portion of the player base.
I want to have fun killing dragons, knowing there is a chance for the item I need, but all I feel is frustration at this point.
How do you get a great success result? i have done it with my CW and SW too, they do A LOT of dps and never get a sheet, better thing i got was a SW blue main hand, what do you do? full dps on dragon, right?
I've been farming dragons on my Temptation warlock. I almost get "Great Success" on every fight since I dps and even more so heal others. Even though my cw greatly out gears my warlock, it's harder trying to hit a great success since the dragons have become nothing more than a DPS race. Seems like the least amount of people at the dragon has given my cw better chances at getting a great success rather than having 30 people zerg the dragon.
I have yet to see an artifact belt or the artifact. I have dropped the warlock draconic boots once, a tunic after like 10 hours of farming.. the headdress and pants. Few of the blue leveling weapon/off hands.
With both by warlock and cw, I don't take a lot of damage, I just dps my face off. I think it is really about power selection specifically tuned toward these encounters. I'm happy to get into more specifics with you if you want.
It is just really disappointing the way these are designed. I don't expect to have gear handed to me, but dozens of hours of farming and hundreds of great successes, should be yielding these items. Because they aren't, I am getting frustrated with the game (that I spend money on).
We've been testing it with the guild and keeping track of our damage. The goal is to try and find the damage threshold to qualify for a drop/great success. ...
Progress is slow due to the large amount of people trying to kill the dragon, so often we have to work with incomplete data and estimates, but we managed to get some basic results so far. We run in a rainbow on purpose for this, so we get data on every aspect of the encounter.
The times we needed over 10 minutes to kill the dragon we haven't been able to get a great success, no matter the amount of damage/healing/tanking that was done. And trust me, if you deliberately take 10-15 minutes to kill a dragon, you almost can't help but reach the threshold on tanking and healing, no matter how high it is. So time appears to be a factor in things, and we like to know that threshold as well.
This is based on 225 runs in Rothe Valley, 70 of which where deliberately dragged out till at least over 12 minutes, but below 17. None of these 70 qualified for a greater success. Tomorrow and up through the weekend we're aiming to get it down between 10 and 12 minutes as many times as we can and see what that gives us.
Some good info. Why can't the devs just plainly tell us what the requirements are? Your guild's efforts are appreciated, but frankly, they shouldn't be necessary.
Also, why can't the devs tell us what the drop percentages/rates are? Other MMOs (those that allow mods, which can then be used to create databases) have the drop rates for everything published by players, and the devs don't bat an eye when it happens.
I just think that if you're gonna lock down a game system and prevent mods from being developed, in exchange, you could give your players better info.

Level 32 DC, have had a few Great Success...have never received anything but a dragon enchantment and coins. These drops would be something special in the same "Reward" cache? I suspect I would not see fancy gear until max level, but still...
At least six hours per day for the past six days at Whispering caverns with at least 75% Great success rate and in all that time no belt drop and nobody else has said they got a drop , in all that time you would expect at least one person to say " Holy *** look what dropped" but nada , nothing , this drop rate for a green belt we then have to level up ourselves is beyond HAMSTER ,if it was already Legendary when it dropped then the low drop rate would make sense but this as it is now is purely idiotic.
On top of that I am now at the point where I am actually having to spend my own AD and gold to clear these stupid dragon horde coins out of my currency bag , the entire thing is totally stupid.
Because if they do that, the next week or so, you're gonna see a forum full of complaints about the buggy RNG in the game xD
Fine with me - they already have those because there is either a legitimate problem with the RNG, or, the drop rate is way too low. We already had proof of their buggy RNG when they fixed one of the bugs with the MOD4 release.
Qualifying is easier on dragons. The threshold isn't impossibly high, although as usual the DC/GF has the lowest chances of getting anything as long as the dragon is being ganked on by 50 people at once. It just dies to quickly for a mediocre GF/DC to heal/tank enough in time.
Care to guesstimate what the threshold is, based on your guild's "research"?
I have no problem grinding away for something I want, but something is not right with the system in its current state. Statistically, with all the people farming, there should be more drops. And these are for GREEN belts no less that are going to take months of refinement, so one would think they would be easier to get and attainable for all but the most hardcore of players.

Agreed. I could understand an obscenely low drop-rate for a legendary belt. But a green that would take months of grinding to lvl up?
It makes no sense.
The way I understand it, for every HE there is a certain number of "points" that are shared amongst the participants. The more participants, the fewer points there are to go around. This means that even a "Great Success" doesn't mean much if there are 20 high dps toons wailing on the dragon, which is the case for the Rothe and WC dragons. The popularity of these HEs is also your undoing, along with the folks inviting in zone chat to overloaded HE instances. Cryptic should have seen this coming and come up with ways to keep things fair for everyone.
It has been suggested that at least these two HEs be turned into 10 man skirmishes with a queue. That way folks can run them as much as they want and still have a chance at getting a good prize. Until they manage to fix the free for all going on, most folks are just going to keep coming up empty.

Now this is a good idea - but as i understand it, there is a skirmish you can unlock later in the campaign. I can't wait and see how abyssmal those drop rates are too.
Its kind of bad, I've gotten the bad artifact, rod of garbage like 3 times. No belt. Lots of coins though. Ohdo cn enough and gain enough ad to just buy it. cn loot values way down except for warlock gear. Could take a while. A long while and bored of that a long time ago.
Yesterday fighting the white dragon I died when he was down about a quarter. By the time I got back he was dead. I received a Great Success for that. No clue how I hit the threshold by that time. I have done a lot more damage and taken a lot more damage with dragon HEs and not received Great Success....This was on my GWF by the way.

How do you know this?
I've read a Dev's response concerning the DPS/Healing/Tanking threshold, but not any mention of time to down an HE boss.

1) farm T2 for loot to sell and just buy the thing (MUCH faster)
2) Work a RL part time job? Mow a lawn, shovel snow, work a few shifts at ANYWHERE
The grind is pure madness on these things at this time and your sanity is worth more than that.
