Lockbox Keys

Firstly, apologies if this has already been suggested but I couldn't find any posts on this if it has.

For those players who are unable, or unwilling, or for whatever reason, do not put money into the game - would it be possible to put the occasional key to open a lockbox in - say - a dungeon chest as part of a reward? It could also be viewed as a bit of a "thank you" to those who do put money into the game!

Although I do understand why the people behind the game have made these keys available for payment only, with the amount of times these lockboxes drop, it seems to me it would be nice to get the occasional key for free especially for folk who can't afford to put money in. I'm only talking about the odd one every now and again in a dungeon or skirmish (or both) chest.

Any thoughts??

All this is not counting the fact you can buy keys for free using the ZAx.

I'm not sure what you meant by that, where can players buy keys for free?

You play the game and earn Astral Diamonds.

You use the Zen Exchange (ZAX) to buy Zen from other players with Astral Diamonds.

    1. get your hands on 62500 AD
    2. offer to buy 125 Z with your AD at the ZAX
    3. wait about 14 days
    4. get the Zen
    5. Buy a key
    6. Use the key on a lockbox
    7. sell the mount for 2m AD on the AH

Warning: reading fine print is bad for your eyes!
Disclaimer: It might take a second or a with bad luck few more attempts to get the desired companion/mount from a lockbox

I buy keys regularly with zen I get from doing those Peanut Lab surveys. Sure its tedious and annoying, but some of em are fun and I am usually able to get roughly 4 keys a week doing that.

LOL. The drop rate for mounts is around 0.30% (0.02% for legendary ones). Now, getting a mount out of a single lockbox you're opening is possible, but on average, you'll have to open HUNDREDS of them (thousands if you want a legendary mount) to find anything profitable.

It's like buying a scratch ticket. Sure, there might be a $500 one somewhere in the roll, but it's hidden among a ton of $1 and $2 and a whooooooole lot of 'Try again's.

Might be the reason why all of them gambling companies have their headquarters in incredible huge town sized offices and not one man tents.

    This.

I got amazingly lucky and pulled the new legendary rage drake two days ago (my wife was thrilled, as I gave it to her in a stunning display of husband-point accumulation). The only mount I've pulled from a box. I am ridiculously lucky in that at most I've popped 50-60 boxes, ever. The odds are, as they must be, always with the house.

Actually, I am a little surprised that Cryptic does not give someone a free key away when a toon first hits level 60. (Or at least the accounts first toon if you worry about people deleting characters and leveling new ones for a single key.)

I would think the big reason for this is to give someone a free "taste"... Try it once and become addicted to keys

    would not make a difference.
Scripts create email addresses and accounts on the fly. Maybe if the drop would be bound to account ...

That would be a very slow way for a botter to make ad.
