The lockbox prices on the AH were getting a little silly for the older ones. This makes the older lockboxes affordable for new players.
I do wish every lockbox held the potential for a Tarmalune Tradebar Jackpot.
Also I think every person whom bothers to read AH prices vs WB prices knows to never go to Wonderous Bazaar for lockboxes. Be better if they sold BoP Lockbox Keys there rather than the lockboxes.

I feel the same. This HAMSTER uses up space, and I get no keys for them to open it. Even guild wars 2 give away some keys as quest reward for their boxes.
And the boxes are, like this boxes, mostly useless as hell. They pilled up over 1.9 Million boxes in the AH in guild wars 2, to show the developers how useless they are.
Why should I ever open one of these boxes?
I throw them out of my inventory, but they start pilling up again. Annoying. Without keys they are useless.
And the keys to open them are far too expensive, to buy them on impulse. And binding them to chars was the last stroke of genius they made. Now you can only get the overprized ones in the Zen Market.
Tbh it's just another incentive from PW/Cryptic to buy more Zen to try and get the rare rewards from lockboxes in the past, which doesn't affect me so much as I always keep the lockboxes I find, and will likely never buy enough zen to open them all but the option is there
To those complaining about the ZAX and keys being BOA I say do blame the developers, but the selfish exploiters and hackers who force them to make these changes in order to try and keep it a balanced and fair economy. The current state of the ZAX is simply due to the amount of people trying to buy zen with AD (many of them using exploited AD) outweighing the smaller number of people buying it to sell.
If zen was too easy to get just from the ZAX without spending real money, then the developers would have very little income like people said to support the servers and future development. So if you want things like keys just wait in the ZAX queue or help support the game and buy some zen, I have never had a problem with this, tho ironically I have likely spent more on this game in a year than I would have on a subscription MMO like WoW, however that was my choice, I cant blame PE for that :P
On a side note though PE do like to think of some quite unreasonable prices for some of their zen store items and promotions...enough so that it makes me laugh when I see them and would never even consider spending such money for them :P
This is silly. I hear a lot of nonsense in this thread. I pay to play this game. I've bought ZEN. I enjoy playing the market, and buying and selling Zen/AD via the exchange is integral to that. I've had millions on the AD Exchange for weeks now. It's not selling, at all. Could I buy more Zen for cash? Sure, but I'm not going to. If this is the way the market works now, it's not fun anymore. This is just a scam. F2P is supposed to be, if you are smart and try hard you can get away with paying less. But if you want convenience, then you pay more. This game is unplayable without Zen, and currently the only way to play is to sink $50-$100/month on zen. Previously you could spend a lot less, and play the market to increase your investment. You'd pay when you needed something immediately, or if you made some bad investments. Now you have to pay to buy anything at all.
I'm not logging int until the AD exchange is fixed. If the devs don't care, neither do I. There are plenty of F2P games just like this one I can test out and possibly move to while they try and figure out rudimentary economics.
I have a feeling you are in the minority Zed. I expect the avg player does not have millions of AD to put on to the ZAX, as the chances of gettin a drop that is worth that much and then someone willing to pay such money for it is quite small. I personally have only managed to make a significant amount of money from buying zen and selling it for AD.
Also sorry to anyone who takes offense to this but I am always slightly suspicious of people who make claims like having 'millions of AD on the exchange', of how they managed to obtain such amounts of AD in the first place... :O
Legitimately paying customers are affected by the binding change as they could well paid for zen to buy a stack of keys to both use themselves and sell. As someone who has brought zen into NW I have to say that there is nothing in the boxes that draws me towards opening them. Drop rates are so diabolically poor or the items are locked behind a secondary rng when the lockbox rng spits out another box of minion, enchant or whatever. If the drop rates were better across the board they'd have more people looking to buy keys to actually use them and could do away with the game wide broadcast that only highlights those with very fat wallets mashing the open another button.
True the only AD getting removed would be the AH tax BUT thats because there's no other AD sinks in the game that are at a decent (tempting) price.
Mount books and the other rubbish from the AD store are either overpriced, pointless tat or both. No mount specific storage means that even the overpriced books are a waste of effort since there's no incentive to ever get more than one, also another reason not to bother with lockboxes especially if you already have a purple quality mount like the spider.
This debacle with the zax started with the lagwind module and with the imminent arrival of the next one they've more or less wasted their window of opportunity to fix things. Making items bound is like slapping gaffer tape on the wing of a plane thats looking a wee bit wobbly as it's flying along. Might work for macguyver but not for the longterm economy of a game.
ZAX cap could be increased but after a few days that cap would be hit and everything would be back to where we are now. It's only a matter of time before it gets done though as bad ideas and quick fixes seem to be the order of the day.

This is completely and utterly wrong. The part I highlighted is the most laughable thing in this. $50-100 a month? I have just barely put that into this game in a year of playing. There is nothing in the Zen shop that you absolutely need to buy (other than maybe a respec token). Coal wards are nice but they are not required. I am only using 2 lesser enchants and I got both of these from invoking. They are not needed in anyway. Sure the game is easier if you have higher level enchants but they are not required.
There is nothing you need to spend money on to play this game.

Boxes are now trashloot.
