I've spent the past month grinding in Dwarven Valley and Icewind for my GF's mainhand and bracers. Running to-and-fro between every HE, minor or epic, that I can get my hands on. I've tried all manner of tactics; max DPS (for a GF), max aggro, I've purposely taken as much damage as possible, Knight's Challenge on the boss, died on purpose, I've run around rezzing people, I've raced people to complete secondary objectives (untie, open the cages, etc), I've been the first at en Encounter, I've arrived almost at the end. I've done EVERYTHING. No drops.
On Saturday night I complete my FIRST Epic HE with my GWF. Let me emphasise that, MY FIRST EPIC HE. I'm the first there. I take maximum damage possible as I done it with two CWs, so I sat in the middle of the mobs and I dealt a large amount of damage. What do I get? Yep, the Black Ice bracers.
What is going on here?
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.
Same here, grinding for the past month on my CW and DC and got nothing yet. I spent a whole day last Saturday just to grind Major and Epic encounters, the best I got with great success are blue mats.

It doesn't depend on top damage, top kills, or top heals. It's just random. It's like the Yeti companion.
It does seem to work better if you don't grind encounters, but rather take a brief break between them.
" I tried to figure out the enigma that was you, and then I realized mastering Wild Magic was easier." - Old Wizard in Waterdeep
"Why is it dragons only use ketchup? I'd like a little wasabi please. Us silvers like a variety of condiments."
"Don't call them foolish mortals. One, they don't learn from it. Two, It just ticks them off." - An Ancient Red Dragon
I was grouped with a DC and GF in my guild. We were doing BID. Beholder pops. Run over and kill. I obviously did more dmg as an HR. GF died once.
What happens? both the DC and GF get their mainhand.. still waiting on mine. I am happy for them because its hard for them but still it feels like WTF?!??!
I hope this will be addressed after mod 4 and maybe they get more free time till the next expansion hits.

It wont because the Pro/Devs have ignored EVERY single bloody post till now , Hiding in there holes and EVERy forum post recently has had this mentioned over and over 327th run today on my GF and no bracers or weapon
Its beyond a joke how bad the game is in this area now and mod 4 is also going to be drop RNG based

My opinion matters little to the majority but i'll offer my 2 cents here.
There does seem to be a contribution system, dps, dmg dealt, dmg healed and dmg taken all seem to factor in. I find myself getting more results with my CW than with any other class (DC seems to do well as she got her stuff in very few tries even the MH after the patch nerfed). Just last night I was running around doing stuff just to do them and get black ice enchantments ... I did the corrupt bears I believe in IWP and what do you know I got black ice gloves bam, like the first or second blue encounter I had done. There were few people around in fact I started solo with 1 or 2 jumping in over time.
My CW naturally uses OF often as my daily builds fast + artifact, SotEA, IT, ST and CS on tab ... I got some pretty nice drops from that which is a LOT of AoE damage.
My GF and DC can't hit the top reward bucket (aka great success) on anything but minor encounters and epics. Major encounters seem supremely difficult to get great success out of for most classes, which is what you need to get a drop chance at what you are looking for.
On a side note, I have to say I still get a fair amount of black ice enchant drops, not such much doing random mobs but when i'm killing stuff in the major and epic heroics i'm getting a lot of enchants which is a nice bonus, so it seems either I got really lucky or the drop rate isn't as bad during a major/epic encounters (or mobs in a major/epic encounters). Think I used all my enchants to upgrade so I had either none or very few and at the end of I think a 30 - 45 minute spree of running around doing heroics I ended up with 15 R5 BI enchants and 30+ R4's. The sad thing is I can't get those kinds of drops on any other class but my CW so i'm gonna be farming them probably as much as I can until MOD 4 is out when my class gets nerfed and probably can't kill as fast or much.

Here is my secret...
1) wear full set of purified ring belt cloak - this will area heal group for 3000
2) dodge the fatal one hit attack but get hit by the small attacks
3) drink potions constantly
4) DAMAGE boss solo single attacks as much as you can
5) save your area attacks for when boss is immune and adds come.
Do all this and you will rank in all categories
Healing - damage taken - damage dealt
Goodluck

And if you are a GF tank that one big hit, not only will it insta fill your daily but the damage it does will guarantee you to be in the great success drop ... however if 25+ people are there don't expect a drop, every drop I have gotten has come from smaller groups that didn't cause lag at the fight ... meaning under 15 people. Or at least be fighting it for awhile before the masses show up.
If you can fight the beholder without getting the agro of spawn adds you can do wonders but it seems those eventually wander into you or spawn near enough to get agro but thats what i've done on a GF. On my other toons all I can say is take damage and do AoE lol. I agree though I use both a purfied and corrupt set of accessories on various toons, all work well, mass heal and mass AoE damage all good things.

Ive had multiple great success with no purples, some of you are just in that small percentage bracket. Enjoy your items, as the rest of the playerbase suffers.
Also, what about those who are 13k , do they not deserve a shot? like ever? So pretty much the Mod was designed for only the highest geared players first.
This all seems wrong to me. The whole system is just not good for the majority of players.

Been farming for the black ice gloves for weeks now....over the weekend I stayed in IWD and IWP farming encounters....after AGES I managed to get the orb from beholder doing mad single target DPS, which isn't really effective for groups, but apparently it's every man for himself in IWD, no matter the faction.... I am *still* farming for gloves after beating every encounter in IWP multiple times (at least 20 or 30 times over the weekend) and got nothing. I don't know if it's because of high participation because of the Gond event...because we have people jumping instances desperate to find said black ice gloves...but making the drop rate even lower is about to ruin Ice Wind Dale for me, and subsequently, the entire game, because I'm tired of farming and getting nothing, wondering if I'm wasting my time if other people show up.... and getting mad hearing that other people are getting multiple drops while others are like me, farming for weeks on end and getting nada.We are told to suck it up and keep farming. Sorry, but even though I love this game, this in particular pisses me off, and makes me tired of doing daily anything. Fix the friggin drop rate, do something to make this spread out. There's no rhyme or reason to how people are getting drops. Everyone has a different idea of what's going on here, and someone needs to clarify this. At the moment, I may say screw IWD on the rest of my characters, because I don't want to spend months grinding for gear that honestly looks ugly as sin no matter what type you pick.
What is even worse is that two pieces of the next modules new gear set are random HE drops too with the gloves dropping in the Rothe valley dragon HE and the Boots dropping at the Whispering caverns Dragon HE lol

I've done it again, my main CW has now just on farming runs for black ice enchantments gotten another MH from a dwarven invasion majory HE. While this makes me happy it also kinda annoys me as none of my other toons no matter how geared seem to have issues getting these "great success" that is needed for high end rewards. Maybe I just got lucky and was traveling around doing majors when few people were out doing them as well and with fewer people you get better rewards ... but my CW has been just getting awesome drops and nearly ever encounter I do is "great success". However my fully geared GF can't do it, he can only get the high end reward from beholder and remorhaz. My GWF I haven't run around with as much but so far he doesn't get "great success" that often from doing anything but minor encounters.
I personally think that the heroic encoutners favor the classes that do AoE most ... but it also seems that you are also better off finding the minimum people to run with (3 in most cases) and farm heroics with a group of 3 as that seems to get you the best chance of high rewards and a good chance at getting black ice gear drops.
I think what is going on is most people play at peak hours with everyone else and just too many people are doing heroics to do any good. However off peak can be hard to do as you might die before you can finish and no one around to save you. I can't tell you how many times I can do undead invastion and do just fine until about stage 2 and 3 when multiple deathlocks come out all with attacks that appear to ignore defense and just kill me in 2 shots. Without a GF or GWF to take those hits I just can't survive those at that stage without help and I don't see a lot of people running around doing those everyone is focused on doing beholders.
It DOES, otherwise please explain to me why people only get 25 black ice if they arrive to the encounter when it's about to end?
Doing more heal and damage grant you a higher chance of getting epic loots.
Well, i have rec'd 25 BI when taking out the 2-3 player encounters solo, many many times...yeah i kind of expected more gratitude from the poor merchant that i liberated, but then again seeing that this is a game...the fact that i solo'd it also translated to that i gained that much more gaming fun and satisfaction. The game though admittedly is setup to strongly entice you to hungrily desire rewards from chests and completion of encounters as we need them to refine and evolve our PC, for gold wont buy HAMSTER. Its too bad the econ wasnt as simple as that; that being, you play the game, take the drops and sell them for the rewards you require. All these different currencies and screaming AD item costs have become a pathology in the game it seems
Imb4 we are not allowed to talk about drop rates incoming

Work is a grind, the game I play for fun shouldn't be. You should get the gloves and weapon when you get an Epic Hero II and III titles if they have not dropped.
What is even worse is that two pieces of the next modules new gear set are random HE drops too with the gloves dropping in the Rothe valley dragon HE and the Boots dropping at the Whispering caverns Dragon HE lol
Yep, I picked up on that. This only tells me that nothing will be done about the stupid drop rates and how two classes are seemingly shafted by it.
One tiny, tiny, microscopic ray of light? Mod 4 may result in fewer people in IWD, so maybe better chances at a drop?
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.
^^ THIS is exactly why devs make everything RNG drop based sooooooo low. This way you won't "run out of" end-game content and whine that there is nothing to do for 3-4 months until the "next" module is released.
If every high-level grinder got their module gear in two days we'd be hearing complaints that there is nothing to do for three months.
They should, however, add some mechanism to receive them after 90 days of dailies or something equivalent.
The main problem with a random number generator is that it has a chance to never hit a certain number.
Exactly! If I wanted to play a game of chance I play the lottery.
I have nothing against the grind or things that are every hard to obtain. But this rng based loot system is just stupid. Some will have their artifact belt on first try, others will never get it.
Who develops such HAMSTER?
Its basically chasing people away instead of attracting them to play the game.
They should, however, add some mechanism to receive them after 90 days of dailies or something equivalent.
I agree with this. 4/5 of my toons are in IWD and neither gloves nor main on any of them. I haven't counted but I would guess that I've done at least 200 Epics and ~400 Major HEs combined. I had better luck with drops before the first Mod3 patch.
I aim to misbehave

Artifacts belts should be BoE so at least you can buy them in the market. But IWD drops are BoP and that makes it like playing the lottery. And I´m not 100% convinced about the scoring system: I got both main-hand and bracers in the first week on my HR. Lately I´ve been grinding HE to find a second pair to complete boths sets without any luck until ten days ago when I entered a Prospector´s encounter at the pass. I was almost completely paralized by lag for most of the encounter (screen frozen for 15-20sec periods with small intervals where everything moved in slow motion), so I fired only a few powers and due to the lag possibly even in places where there were no enemies anymore. At the end of encounter I was really pissed off and then pressing ctrl-f I found out that I got the bracers.... with almost zero contribution to the HE.
