I had come back recently and wanted to know people's opinion on the direction some of the classes had taken. I mainly do a lot of solo work because time makes it a bit difficult to group up sometimes. I am a PvE kind of a guy and mainly focus on the DPS end of things. Just wondering the state of classes currently and where things might head with the next big update (#4 I think is the one coming). Is the TR doing well and will be in the next update? I was reading that the GWF was gonna take a hit. Is it still doing well right now? Is guardian fighter the way to go these days to shore up a bit of defenses to last a bit longer to do a bit more damage? Is the Cleric a good option in terms of dishing out damage and staying in a fight? Just wanted opinions guys so I can come back in swinging.
You should browse the Preview section as to where the classes are going. Don't listen to the whiner's they're mostly PvP'rs. All classes are still great for PVE.
As of now from best to least dps wise CW, GWF, HR, TR, DC, GF but that's just an opinion. My favorite for solo is the GWF pretty much just stand still and kill stuff the best as of now imho.
Really hard to say, but for PvE a CW is probably still the best choice.
While both the CW and GWF classes are getting massive changes, the control abilities of CW will always be in demand so parties will always want at least one. However, there is no guarantee that GWFs will not end up as bad DPS-wise as they were pre-mod 2, and they don't bring the same amount of party utility as a CW.
Doesn't really matter too much for solo content, anyone can do it. GFs are better for support though will probably still be slow(ish) for soloing content, DCs are also slow apart from having some burst on squishy mobs, trs are fine single targeters but could do with being buffed for grouped content, CW are squishy but still do decent damage, not tried the new hrs, supposedly theyre better at dps now, mine used to be too squishy until i got the combatant set for her though she still can't do bugged HEs in icewind I don't think, as for GWFs not sure what they're like come mod 4 generally they'll have to decide between tanky and no damage or damage dealing but squishier. Solo content is all easily doable though. Not sure ow the SW is, didn't want to level it up twice...

TR getting almost no changes. (They will be worked on post-Mod4)
GWF and CW getting nerfs.
GF getting buffs.
HR feat trees getting completely reworked.
DC getting under-the-hood fixes but no direct changes. (They will be worked on post-Mod4)
SW is the new class.
That is the best I can tell you until Mod4 arrives and the theorycrafters can play with the finalised changes/numbers.

Rogues are still in a poor place. But we have been told they are next for a major balance pass after mod 4, along with clerics.
