Crafting Question

Sorry to be on general discussion but I could not find a Crafting Section.

My search yielded some results but did not answer my query.

I want to Refine one of the higher level shards, for instance Shard of Elven Battle Enchantment.
Refining Points: it says "enough to upgrade"
but then it says "Chance of Upgrading" NIL!!!!!!

Reagents needed it put there 9/3 of the same shard so for some reason the 'reagent' is suddenly the same as the shard I want to refine. OK, so apparently the minimum would be 3/3.
I also put the ward.

But still it says chance of Upgrading Nil. So what is the point of getting these shards may I ask? If chance to upgrade is nil why am I doing dungeons and collect these shards when they are practically useless!

In the instructions I found on crafting upgrading here it shows an example of this. Except in the example it says "chance of upgrading" 100% without any explanation that it could be anything less than 100%. So that is not help at all.

Help would be much appreciated

For higher level refinement, such as any armor/weapon upgrade, the chance will always be 1% without using the coalescent ward. When using the coal ward, chance of upgrade is always 100%. You can also try your luck with the 1% chance, and use perservation ward to stop your reagents from being destroyed. Good luck!

Don't worry coal wards are only 500k via the exchange or $10. Much better than the old system which didn't require many coals (ignoring the fact it used to cost 5 times less) or inefficient rp upgrading of enchants like barkshield of plague fire. AAlso ignoring that you could get them for free. Also if we ignore the fact it is now almost identical with a few flaws and many times more expensive to actually make a lesser which you used to be able to get for free then this system is defintely greater for new and old players alike. Oh also lets ignore that the system is backlogged which delays things for free2players.

But yeah anything with 1% you'll want a coal (lessers are sometimes cheaper on the ah than the price of a coal so check to make sure), anything more and you'll likely want a pres ward as long as the reagents cost more than 5000 ad.
