Recently I have read some interesting discussions in the preview forums about our class and spotted that there are some highly efficient clerics among us. They are very few, but they are there.
Some of them mention that alot of us/the majority are simply incompetent.
I'm here to ask for your help. I would like to become a better cleric in PVP and do abit more. This is a small challenge I leave to those 18k gs cleric's who have a good team to play with and believe that DC's are fine right now.
Please, explain to the majority of the incompetent clerics, how to PVP. The basic mechanics, the basic advices.
There is too much of controversy going around, and I want to believe that you are right and that Devouted Clerics are fine as they are, but I admit that all those guides I read and those calculations I saw and those alts I made...I don't know how you're so good and how you do it.
Please show us the way.
Thank you very much,
Have fun everyone,
Almondum.

I know that many will disagree with this, but I am in the "don't do pvp" camp. Unless you don't mind dying a lot, not being able to kill a lot and not even being able to contribute for a support role. As for the being incompetent or skilled in battle, there is only so much dodging you can do, even the most skilled cleric will struggle against similar gear players and even lower geared ones, you have to hope that you meet low geared and beginner players.
The fact that "TOO MANY" DCs are incompetent describe how restricted the class is that it should be built in a certain way, and also played in a specific way.. I dont think we say many GWFs & HRs are incompetent in decimating foes but do they follow an exact build / playstyle for PvP like a what a cleric should be doing? Just curious...

I have made no secret of the fact that I hate PvP - I think the inclusion of PvP and the attempts to "balance" classes for PvP purposes is damaging to the game overall. Having said that, I must say that if I wanted to PvP (which, as I said, I don't), I wouldn't even consider doing that as my DC. A healing/support class and PvP just doesn't go well together.

1 stuff that will be useful in pvp... in general non class specific.
Id slot AOE powers especially stuff that have some over time or Knockback effects
debuffs and weakens and stuns are also good. slot a lot of speednhancements.
pvp is often not about how fast you Gank people. if you can stun slow weaken
the opponent your dps friend can take them out. use terrain/npcs to your advantage.
in the capture the flag pvp if you can get the other team chasing you around the center
flag your team can capture the other flags. if you don't mind dying playing the decoy
can be a really powerful tactic,
any damage over time power can knock a rogue out of stealth making it a sitting duck.
never winter pvp is 1 part gear 3 parts teamwork and ability to dodge/out think a stronger opponent

Instead of giving opinions about usefulness of the DC in PvP, why not try to help this person?
Good point, sorry...
Basically, you can take a few different paths to be a "good DC" in PvP. One of them is based around a really "tanky" build - the idea is to make the enemy spend a lot of time in taking the DC down, and while 2-3 enemy players are slowly killing the DC, the rest of the team captures the flags and wins the match. Good for the team, but perhaps not very fun. Second path is team buffing/healing focused - you keep your team members alive and allow them to kill faster/more, but are more vulnerable yourself. The third is pure DPS oriented - you focus on powers that allow you to do maximum damage and ignore your team members.
So, which path is the OP interested in? You cannot follow all of them at the same time.
Hoping for improvements...

Current pug meta is highly variable.
To come on say any one set up, one way is going to net you a victory on a pug matchup isnt easy.
Any # of high end premade clerics are in the game, and even if they just pug, most of them are BiS and could easily counter 2-3 normal pug toons.
But being a 15k cleric is different and harder, Im mostly tanky myself with 3k defense 2.5k deflect, 1k regen, Ive dropped some HP (been as high as 35k , give or take, but recently built more around the incoming healing bonus from the boon/artifact to see how it works)
There are matches I will go into and just supporting 2 is by far more then enough to win the match, other matches , Ive had to kill myelf 25 times to win a match.
If Im getting little melee action on two , I usually go with exult , Hw and shield, if Im more supported, I go with DG, SB and Shield, if my team is romping opposing team, I go and have some fun with BTS, FF and SB and go burn some peeps down (o.O 8 kills for the win
Dont think just because your not 18k ++ with 9/10s and perfects a DC cant impact a pug dom match. Its just not as fun as it was once, (sitting in a shield and LoLing at the pathetic HRs trying to burn you down pre tenacity match.. the days of that are over)
I would reccomend maybe doing two classes or more into pvp and rotate, I feel that just playing one class , really gets me in a negative frame of mind. Taking a break and rotating one in and out really does help, you also learn the other classes abilities this way and what to avoid and time ect, this is where skill/knowledge come into play.
I probably will never be the greatest MMO player ever, but with just simple preparedness you can usually do pretty well.
due to the forum advice I go with healing ward, exaltation and chains (I guess you can switch chains but I who'd keep the healing)
divine fortune is great for divinity
profound armor is great for divinity and bit of protection (I took the HP power, but I guess you can chose the one you want)
astral seal + sacred flame will give you nice heal, divinity and action points
healing step will give you lot of dodge, the righteous path gives bit of divinity and protection as well so its good for PVP
plague fire and briatwine are nice enchantments (again all advices I got from the forum, this one from jazzfong)
play style is stay with the group
heal, debuff and use punishing light to eliminate weak classes or ppl that try to escape (this is why you need a lot of divinity)
I guess the virtuous path with cycle of change will be good for PVP but I didn't try it yet
again check the forum for advice
* as for icewind open pvp solo... the best tip I can give you is know where the golem is and stick to it if you get attack
Thank you all for your input. I will read once again Elf's guide, maybe I missed something.
I wrote this post as I read a big argue between 18k gs premade clerics and the rest of the clerics who are the majority.
It was mentioned by them that clerics are fine, that they can heal in tank builds and save the allies.
So after I read several pages of that thread at preview forum discussion, I created this thread hoping that one of them will help us.
I really want to believe that with a tank build and loads of defensive stats I can save people, right now I can't...the heals are too weak, but there must be a way, a secret.
Please share it with us.
If your pvping on DC to heal other players you are going to be disappointed.
I can only really speak to DC in domination pvp since that is all I play. But I can give you my point of view if it helps.
To best help you can you answer a few questions, What is your gear score range? What is your playstyle? Meaning do you like to stand still or do you like to stay moving. Do you like to be away from the action or in the middle of it? Do you like to and are you good at cycling targets and singling out targets or do you prefer to use AoE and abilities that do not require selecting one target? How good are you at seeing other players in your group and the opposing group and identifying their class and build from abilities animations/used? Basically how well do you know other classes. Lastly do you mind being killed in order to win or are you looking for good numbers on the scoreboard?
With some baseline info here on forums many can help you with playing your DC in pvp. There are many good pvp DC, some here on the forums and some not. So you should also ask questions in the game from DC you see in open world and in domination.
I've found that if I work on debuffing enemies and buffing myself and allies then I tend to be able to support and heal a lot better and usually tip the favor in my direction. I mainly focus on healing and reducing incoming damage, but throw out a little damage here and there to build up divine power. That's one thing you need to realize, you'll never solo kill anyone unless they truly are badly geared. I will say this though, I have found a love of the ability Break the Spirit recently. I didn't think it was as good as it is, but if someone else is attacking someone I see a noticable increase in how fast their HP drops when I place it on them. Pure gold imho.
I just wish there was more incentive for people to heal domination, because you only get credit for assists and kills right now, which, as a DC, you won't get as many as the other classes.

demortenes I will try to contact you soon, have alot of questions in my mind. Thank you.
For raist724:
I'm a healing cleric, I like to support by overhealing the damage and saving my allies (yes I know it does not work well in this game).
During the battle I try to move around as much as possible and try to guess when they will use an ability..it's kinda hard, I can't see the future.
GS range is 15k-15.6k.
I have some alts: CW, HR and GWF...but I never did any PvP with them, so I don't know how they kill. What I know are the names of their powers and what they all do.
I can identify some classes from distance, and their paragon path...but not more than that.
The thing is you can build a decent PVP DC, but then you will lack in the PVE area, and visa versa. That is what is the problem for me with the DC at the moment. I've build a 17k 40k/HP PVP AC DC for pvp which works nice in PVP, but seriously lacking in the soloing for PVE/dungeons. Then i build a 17k HP/set DC which is brilliant for PVE/dungeon but is really bad at PVP.
Compare to the other classes which can choose one paragon path which is viable for both PVP/PVE. So you either PVP or PVE. You can be both, but you will lack in some area or the other

Why torture yourself, trying to PvP as a DC?
I can't serve as an expert of DC builds, but you should try looking through all of the posts here in The Temple folder in these forums.
It takes some time, but there is good advice to be found!
Good luck and have fun!
