The thought has crossed my mind since at current prices it'll take around 1/3 the time to sell aqua regia and buy the companion off the AH compared to grinding out the aqua regia directly for the companion. Prices are subject to change of course.
I think I'll skip it though as it has the potential to be worse than the fawn grind.

Due to some unforeseen technical difficulties we've had to delay the Alchemical Extravaganza. We will keep you updated whenever we receive new information. We currently do not have a concrete ETA on a fix, but you all will be the first to know when we do.

The storefront on the Zen Market in game is misleading stating that the event is active. Also, it says you can trade Assets AND Resources. Is that simply code for we will be using our resources to craft purple Assets, or will we actually be able to use resources as trade towards the companion codex?

The event allowed you to trade 100 aqua regia for an ingot and 15 ingots for the companion. Basically to do it legitmately was a complete waste of money.

well glad i found this thread ... i saw the Companion in the AH but they are all about 1.5 million AD. i totally missed it when it happened the first time so i'll start saving up/making my aqua regia's ... surely that won't amount to 1.5M AD!!!!

It really isn't worth your time for you to spend doing that.....
Do a CN run, farm Kessell's, work 1 hour at McDonalds.....you'd get tons more return
