PVP: Inappropriate removal from battleground

Hello,
I apologize if this is a known issue; I searched the knowledge base and the recent forum posts in the last 30 days as instructed in the FAQ and did not find anything.
I was PVPing today in Gauntlgrym battlegrounds, and had been actively doing so for 15ish minutes, when I was very suddenly ported out with no warning, back into the GG Ruins. When I attempted to requeue, I found had the "leaver penalty" applied.
I am not sure what triggers this action, but I was literally in active combat at a node nowhere near the campfire when this occurred. Frustrating because I am not able to receive any credit nor complete the daily, as the faulty leaver penalty timer outlasts the queue window.
