cw nerfs and scourge warlock

I play wizards only as pure DPS class and refuse to play them in the role of a support class only.

So I wonder what is the intention of the devs: Do they want to have a pure DPS caster class in the game? And if so, will it be possible as a paragon path in control wizards? Or do I have to reroll to a scourge warlock?

The point is: I wouldnt have made all that drama if I am new to the game and not yet decided what to play. But I already spend alot AD/time/Zen into my toon to play her with the playstile I enjoy. Now since the dramatic changes to my main class in all paragon paths will probably gimp my toon to be unable to succeed in this task (i.e. playing pure DPS) and I find this highly unacceptable!

If it is not possible anymore to play this playstile I would like to ask if it is possible (although probably highly unrealistic) to give the option to change my CW class into a scourge warlock class when the nerfs go life.
Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)

Well I wouldn't count on it,

But the Scourge Warlock is only a Single Target class not an AoE class, and their DPS is generally much worse than a Control Wizard.

When this class came out originally in 3rd Edition it was really just a Name Only. The Wizard and Sorcerer class were the major AoE DPS, Warlock was a distant Second. Heck I'm even betting that 4th edition version was not that great at it.

D&D defines Striker as Single Target damage.

D&D defines Control as AoE damage.

Technically these two should not interfere with each other as the Warlock is the Striker, The Wizard is the Control in those terms of damage.

So basically the Warlock should have almost all Single Target powers and the CW should have a lot of AoE damage.

So unless Cryptic is changing the Warlock into something its NOT... then there is still no reason for any kind of Major CW AoE damage nerf.

Hi Silverquick, thanks for your reply!

Sooo... that would mean CWs are in fact one of the DPS caster classes to go, at least according to D&D lore (taken aside for a moment that in PnP there is no such form of 'DPS').

But then can anyone tell me (those who tested on the preview shard) if there is any spec at all for pure DPS CW setup in mod4? I have heard opressor MOF, but isnt opressor supposed to be the PvP tree? What is the purpose of the other trees then?

Well being that the current changes completely break both of those trees,

....it means all CWs will get shoved into one unwanted, unwelcome path.

Thaum and renegade will be DPS trees from the looks, but major feats are bugged and not working so we cannot test how much damage they do right now. You will have to wait and see. But from what i gather CWs will be doing most AoE damage still but zero group debuffs, or close to whoever will be top. (we have yet to see how HRs will be tweaked or TR changes.)

It's pretty evident that the developers don't play the game at all. The CW changes go way beyond balance. They might as well just remove the class if they think this is a good direction to take them.

A lot of drama around given that nobody has been able to fully test the new feats yet. Maybe wait for the bugs to be addressed and see where things go from there? Also, although I don't expect any major rollback there is plenty of time for feats to be adjusted.
