In the wake of the first mod 4 patch going live on preview, a great many cws have cried out in outrage. Spellstorm Thaum has been murdered. EotS if now defunct. Shard hits like a wet tissue. The world is ending!! Or not.
In this patch I feel that cryptic has done an AMAZING job at giving the CONTROL wizards actual control. Respeccing to Spellstorm oppressor and fighting mobs makes me giddy with all the control I have. No longer do we have to rely on stupid high damage to keep us alive in dungeons. We don't have to abide by the "kill it before it kills you" mentality. The oppressor rework is gorgeous.
I can root enemies so often and smack them down like a control wizard was supposed to. I can actually, and properly, control my enemies. In a group with another SS Opp and a MoF Thaum, we cleaned house. The synergy of the debuffs and features is absolutely beautiful.
However, I do realize that it will be fixed (hopefully not just nerfed) for pvp as the current rooting/freezing cuts through a lot of other powers that it's not supposed to. Hopefully they won't kill it before mod 4 as it's currently the only viable pve build. The old "run through 19 rooms and sing everything and slam it with massive dps" maneuver is over. SS Thaum is no longer capable of such; the control cw's wield now works in a different (and honestly, extremely fun) way.
If anyone has found any other fun/viable builds I'd like to hear about them. Adapting to this change forces a large change in a cw's playstyle, but if not too much changes between now and then in the Oppressor tree, SS Opp will be the new meta for cws. Can't wait
"Control Wizards primarily focus on controlling the battlefield and dealing damage to a large number of creatures simultaneously Because of the wizard's role as a controller, they possess more crowd control options than any other class. Their ability to deal high amounts of damage gives them the secondary role of striker. They wield a magical orb and are capable of unleashing torrents of damage on enemy parties. They can only wear cloth armor."
"A controller discourages enemies from making certain choices with his area offense attacks, by which the controller punishes enemies from grouping together or takes a direct hand in influencing actions."
Wizards are scions of arcane magic. Wizards tap the true power that permeates the cosmos, research esoteric rituals that can alter time and space, and hurl balls of fire that incinerate massed foes. Wizards wield spells the way warriors brandish swords. "
"Controllers focus on affecting multiple targets at once, either damaging or debuffing them, or altering the battlefield's terrain. Some classes, such as Wizards and Invokers, are focused towards ranged combat, while Druids can specialize in ranged or melee combat."

I will not be re-speccing by the way...
Nor will I be playing an oppressor... that is not the game I wanted to play.
I refuse to play a support(control only) class as well.
I am here because of dps to deliver. Probably with firemage or warlock now on!
Exactly. I play wizards only for DPS purpose. If there is no DPS caster class in the game (and my main broken in which I invested many many hours) I move on to games where they are.
Suggestions to improve NW:
- Dualspec
- Better rewarding foundry and foundry pvp maps
- Custom PvP leagues with leaderboards instead of the current 'matchmaking'.
- Armory
- make jumping cost stamina (to reduce hopping in pvp)

Here's the REAL Control Wizard and what Control REALLY means in D&D.... Do you think the Devs Nailed this one at least in terms of Flavor?
Or were they off target... I am just reposting this from another thread...
