Difference between Plague Fire and Terror

Hi,

as a DC I'm using Vorpal as an enchant. I was thinking about changing him into debuff DC. I read several threads and noticed that some people say that Plague Fire is better than Terror. So what's in Plague Fire that makes it better than Terror? Compare Greater Plague Fire and Perfect Terror.

In PvE, GPF has a 3% Damage Resistance debuff per stack (up to 3) in addition to its DoT that lasts 4 seconds. Perfect Terror has a 4% Damage Resistance debuff in addition to its damage that lasts 5 seconds. In terms of straight-up debuffing, even 2 stacks of GPF will outperform Perfect Terror, assuming you can keep the stacks up.

GPF reduces defense by 15% per stack and stacks up to 3 times, but the debuff duration (NOT shown on tooltip, as usual), is very short, 3sec IIRC, so unless you spam a lot of attacks you won't be able to max it all the time.

Terror has only a single 20% debuff, but it stays more reliably for 6sec (again IIRC, tooltips don't help)... so the choice would be based on class rather than on the enchantment itself.

Both do not stack (IIRC, tooltips etc. so I hope I'm not giving wrong info) with other enchantments of the same type (but they stack with each other), thus you should also consider, if you often do content with the same people/party, what do they have. If they already have a Plague Fire go for Terror, and vice versa.

so GPF can debuff a foe with 45% (with 3 stacks) (or 39,5%, depends how it counts) defense reduction and Terror with just 20%?

    What would you recommend?

Not buying a plague fire until Cockatrice is dealt with unless you only play proper domination , don't go near OPVP with plague fire or any other dot enchantment , you are asking for trouble xD

For a debuff DC i'd peak terror, and for ranger archer spec.

For CW or GWF go Vorpal or Plaguefire.

Personally, I'd stick with vorpal. It doesn't have to stack. I think a DC would have a hard time keeping stacks of PF up. Terror would be OK, if you're not grouped with another terror wielder.

GPlague means 45% with those 3 stacks, PTerror is 20%. I preffer one cw with GPlague and let the dc carry a G-PTerror.
Also, GPlague's stacks comes from 3 to 1 pretty quickly.

Also, this is what the these enchants actually do, the numbers on the tooltips are completely meaningless (as usual lol).

In PvE, that is what they do. In PvP, the tooltips are correct.

I don't get it now. In Pve GPF and Terror only have a 3-4% damage resistance buff, but in Pvp they reduce defense by 15 and 20%? Could someone explain it?

Damage Resistance and Defense are different. In PvE, GPF/PT reduce Damage Resistance by 3/4% per stack. In PvP, they reduce the Defense rating by 15/20% per stack.

so, for example, when hitting a foe (PvE) for 1k without GPF or Terror, I'll hit for 1030 with my enchantment on? Sorry for these stupid questions, but I'm completely confused now.

It's pretty confusing what they do and how damage is calculated from GPF/terror debuffs. I have a detailed explanation and equations here (sections 3.2 and 3.4)
