Update 2 I can confirm that a Briartwine amour enchantment will proc Careful Attack when an enemy attacks you. I tested this on a Cyclops in Sharandar and he killed himself eventually just by attacking me. The Briartwine damage is small however the Careful Attack damage is good. I have not tested this on a TR in PVP yet however I suspect it will work. Will test tonight.

Update 1: Purchaced a Briartwine enchantment and will test tonight.
Hello my fellow HR's,
As the title suggests this is a post about Theorycraft, or a collaboration of ideas that together we can test to have more fun with/improve the HR class. What I would hope to achieve by starting this thread, is to see us come together and help test each other’s ideas.

My ideas will tend to be toward the benefit of our PVP specs, because this is where I personally find my enjoyment in Neverwinter. However if you have some build theories regarding PVE please share them also.

My inspiration for this post, truth be told, is the tenacity shown by the TR community who I believe are some of the most creative players. It has been proven time after time after all of the nerfs to their class that the TR community is willing to theory craft/ try new things and adapt to any situation to remain competitive.

In saying this, my first theorycraft is aimed at a creative way of exposing this foe when contesting a node :p I will try to test this myself over the weekend however if you have already done so or would like to experiment yourself, please do and share your findings here.

Theorycraft: Using a Briartwine armor enchantment (At Perfect rank, it reflects 4% of damage taken) to deplete a TR's stealth and proc the At-Will Careful Attack (CA).

I came up with this idea after fighting a Semi-Perma last night on my home node. The TR used Path of Blades, Shadow Strike and Impossible to Catch. To be honest the TR was not as experienced as others I have fought and died standing in my Thornward with CA active. My Fox Shift dealt the final blow. However I still believe TR's are better at contesting.

When the TR was not in my Thornward the TR was able to niggle damage with Cloud of Steel and Path of the Blades and obviously remain in stealth. Now a better TR could easily avoid my Thornward and prolong the fight, however the better TR would still use the very fast at will Cloud of Steal and Path of Blades for damage, and this got me thinking.

Would the Briartwine enchantment when hit by a TR's Cloud of Steel damage them enough to force them out of stealth messing with their rotation?
Would it do the same when they use Path of Blades?
And finally, would the reflected damage proc Careful Attack? And if yes, would this be useful vs any class.

I will try to test this over the weekend.

So my fellow HR's, do you think that if proven to work, the above would benefit our playstyle in PVP? Do you have any ideas that need to be tested which you would like to share?

I'm sorry: SW here, soo...can't help much :(

We sorely lack any kind of commentary for different tactics for HR (either path), for sets and for countermeasures against other classes. Just look at the sheer difference in number of posts/threads vs other class forums: feels like our class went online last month

You are right. There has been less activity in the wilds than other class forums. There is a wealth of knowledge regarding the class though and some fantastic guides if you dig deep (albeit not for Pathfinder). Maybe together we can get people from out of the wood works and start sharing their builds/theories in this thread.

I am going to test the theory above with a lesser. There are no perfects on the AH currently and I cannot justify spending 4 mil on a greater for testing purposes.

There's a TR Passive Power called Tenacious Concealment. Reduces stealth loss from incoming damage by 30%. By 90% at rank 3.

Players who wear Briartwine aren't really looking to kill the TR with it, but to locate where he is, since when it ticks, it kinda pings at where the TR is, much like how Thorn Ward works.

If you can locate the TR, you can break his power rotation and that's maybe your only chance at killing him.

    I already did this once...
    -_-

In short, HRs need a lot of changes.
Currently HRs are good when it comes to dealing damage to single enemy. Literally, "dummy"-boss-class battles. Of course, there are next to zero bossfights that meet such parameters.
Several abilities are in dire need of redesign.
    1. Aimed shot. This is our only way of dealing direct single damage. No ability outdamages this at-will.
It has only one downside, but it alone renders it nearly useless. Any damage taken interrupts the channeling of this shot. This is actually the worst idea devs came up with. Any damage includes "burning ground" AOE and even damage over time effects applied to hunter (sic!). This means that you cannot use it when you're getting hit by an aggroed minion, you cannot use it while the boss keeps damaging enemies nearby (Valindra x2), you cannot use it when some raid-wide effects are poking you (Remorhaz burning ground "voidzones" that appear after their EVERY hit). You just... can't. You can only use it when the enemy is alone and he's not poking you. Need I say more?
So this concept must be removed permanently, no excuses. Before sandbox PVP emocriers come up with their whining, there are two ways to keep them at bay: let PVP damage to interrupt this channeling (which is actually stupid) or inform them that they have CC abilities of their own. Channeling of an Aimed shot requires HR to stand still for two seconds. Even an autist should be capable of stunning-disorienting-sending prone-knocking back such an easy target. Nobody cares when HR has to deal with CC-immune GWF charging at him and chaining up several prones/knockbacks, but when it comes down to HR himself they immediately cry out loud about "BALANS PLZ".

    2. Split the sky. Currently its only useful for low GS dungeon runs, where people are taking hits. In a party with 2+ CWs who keep chaincontrolling and nuking AOE trashpacks it deals whimsical damage. Its melee counterpart grants a slight boost to damage, but increases damage taken by up to x2 ratio, which is utterly messed up.
There are two ways to fix this:
    - redesign STS to some "Hurricane" ability that would deal no or very low damage but provide vortex effect that of Black hole. This would allow HRs to finally have a chance to be picked as party slot for dungeon runs, since right now we have NO AOE CC at all.
    - redesign STS to deal steady AOE damage. Simple as that. Change the "damage on hit taken" to simple damage over time AOE effect. Even if it won't fix the lack of AOE CC, it would be a fine addition to our AOE damage capabilities, especially post-nerf.

    3. Rain of arrows/swords. The only AOE ability we have, no kidding. And it has the radius of effect lesser than most enemies' hitboxes. What the heck, really? This ability DEFINITELY needs a rework. Its radius must be increased at least by 2x. Its hard to hit a SINGLE target with it these days, much less to hit multiple at once. CWs and GWFs have no such issues, as their abilities are Hurp Derp Press X to win.
Rain of swords needs to be more obvious. If its a cone, then make some sort of "crosshair" for it just as CWs have. If its a cylinder... well, read above. Currently its so messed up so it hurts to even do some research on how does it work. Can someone call such an ability "viable"? Pfah.

    4. Various currently useless abilities (Boar charge, Hindering shot, Electric shot). These are literally "put power points here because you have no choice" abilities. Nobody uses them (well, maybe Charge has some small use in PVP but I rarely see people picking it).
IMO, they must be replaced with completely new set of abilities. They might be replaced with melee-oriented strong powers that could finally make melee build viable. They might be replaced with some other CC that would keep HR useful in groups and dungeon runs.
Electric shot is a joke. A 100% buff to it is even worse joke. Increasing 1-2 damage done to 2-4 is a spit to our class' face.
Hindering shot is a nonexistant ability. We are forced to pick it to pass down through the paragon path but we never use it past lvl20 or so, when we get alternative abilities. The damage is ridiculous, the CC effect is simply laughable.

There is also an issue of threat. Assuming all mentioned above, we should at least exceed in safety. Devs think otherwise though, therefore a HR dealing less damage than CW will still get a lot of mobs on his tail eventually killing him. 6% threat reduction from feats, for the cost of THREE feat points? Totally an offense towards us. I would consider picking that talent at no less than 15%/30%/45% multipliers.
Should HRs be allowed to deal damage without having to deal with lots of threat/aggro, they might be able to deal damage in dungeons in more optimal way. This would be something like a "dying wish" for us, if they won't consider buffing us to be on par with others. At least this will probably soothe our permanent pain.

PVE-wise overall, HRs need to get viable as "damage dealer" class slot. Compared to two others currently dominant classes, we should either outdamage them in raw firepower, or get decent control abilities to be a viable pick for dungeon runs. Nobody wants a placeholder that deals half the CW damage on AOE trashpacks and cannot even shake off aggroed mobs. And nobody wants to play such a placeholder to be condemned to stand alone in the Enclave, desperately crying out loud "LFG T2 Q_Q".

...why did I bother doing all this? Ghostcrawlers will simply ignore all this, as they did twice already.

Perfect rank, it reflects 4% of damage taken dont work on trs after they go steath they can hit you but Briartwine not reflect the dmg back after they go steath. Hint try it with lesser version you will see no dmg on log. Many reflect dmg not working on tr after they go steath like fey boon or GF passive. The problem is soon y will have nigthmares TR WK perma is immortal in owpvp and i think soon they will join in dpvp and gpvp too. Also Briartwine have CD 0.5 sec i think.

GWF are rigth now not so op .
The way i see TR perma WK is too powerfull like hr but in 1 vs 1 TR will win.
But the owpvp is a big fail if y kill someone he can log out .So no matter what y do in owpvp y will have 0 kills .

The only solution VS perma is many dot skills and enchants but vs VK perma y have zero chance.
I have mybe 1 option to go full hp regen and ,get as many healing skill enchants THP so BI puri gear is cool aganst VK.
Mybe if VK hit y ower 15 min he will give up _:).

In owpvp i find some cool tactik to lure VK in brutal smal place bridge or pillars near edge where he cant have enugh space.
In dpvp&gpvp y dont have this luxury.

Please add something positive that may help others reading this thread with their HR experience, or if you would be so kind don't post anything more.

Don't be offended by my directness, I see you have a great HR PVE build, and would probably have a wealth of helpful information to give especially to someone like me that is terrible in PVE.

Why not share this instead? If we cannot change our minds, we will have no success changing anything.

Believe me, you don't want to see the tickets I used to sent to CCP. I got permabanned from EVE.
I was infuriated by the amount of autists in League of Legends and got permabanned. Twice.
    Cryptic, here I go.
    Lo and behold.

an hr abusing carefull attack on you....no way... he gets two ticks instead of 1. but wait, the one tick leave 3 plague fire dots...+4 carefull attack on him.
and im not going to give you any hints to how to create a domino messing around with feats and boons...but there is.
Ah yes, "hints". Because not even a 100% pure virgin Casual Derp™ could miss the "procs damage upon attack" boons and their synergy with PF/CA. Not even those utte~
Scratch that. Indeed, no hints should be given.

keep your pve complaints in pve sissi threads. this is clearly around pvp and there is not so much to complain in pvp with an hr.
com'on there is nothing to complain in pve too, think what trs should feel like.
so best hr evah maybe is time for you to leave the thread or leave the class alone and joining the "i_m_gonna_take_elixirs_like_v(i)agra_before_***_GWFs_train"

however, no... there was not the synergy i meant. try again

I use Hindering shot in PvP all the time. Boar Charge as well against CW/GWF.
Split Sky and RoA are my main damage dealers in PvE (esp with a lot of adds and CWs).
I use electric shot and clear the ground as my main at-will in PvP and PvE. No problem with DPS.
TRs are not that hard to kill - use Hindering shot to find them :)

Point? I've adapted and so can you.

This one made me smile a bit. Impressive. A sandbox PeeVeePee speaks bold words. Truly fascinating, very entertaining.
Go on, amuse me, little one.

Cute. So you're using eight skill binds instead of three? Cause I seriously cant see someone picking Hindering shot over Binding arrow or even Constricting arrow. Cant see anyone picking Charge over Marauder.
...and then I came down to read that he's using Electric shot AND CTG. In PVE. He uses that joke of an at-will. Makes sense.
Aw gods... He uses ES in "both PVP and PVE". Dammit, no other casual Derp™ may rival this one. This is... pure essence of Derpidy. I applaud to this glory.

I am not going to abandon my main just because some dev is playing CW/GWF.

Updated first post. So Careful Attack does proc when a enemy hits you with briartwine. Why is this good? Well if you are busy with defence and cannot actively attack you are still contributing DPS to your marked target. Can we think of any other advantages that may make this enchantment less lackluster?

jabsolum would you mind to test it in the open pvp? does it ticks some extra time or it has the same 1.5sec CD?

I will test for you tonight. The Cyclops was not a good testing ground because they attack like once every 6 secs. I've not done open world PVP yet but will tonight.

Thorn ward is currently bugged and doesn't damage a rogue if they're in stealth.

I hope this will never happen.

i did. so it still ticks once every 1.5 sec. Basically even if your discoverings are really good they dont make briartwine needed :(

Has anyone tested if Bilethorn has synergistic effects with Careful Attack similar to how Plaguefire activates Careful Attack? Bilethorn hurts a TR's stealth the most compared to the other enchantments. I haven't played my HR much but if Thorn Ward procs weapon enchants, it could also be used as a tool to shave stealth off a TR, along with Split the Sky for Stormwardens.
