Knight Captain for utility and valiant for dps and some utility. And since T2 GF sets suck so bad,you can stick to KC/Valiant for all your NW experience.
The only competitor of 2 these sets is Timeless. But if you are not critical speced and not running with vorpal Valiant will serve you reliably and some would say better
Ive just hit 60 with my Alt GF few days before mod 3 just for the lulz. But I found this starter set which is really cheap in my opinion. Keep in mind that your key defensive stats are HP and regen, so you can solo the new zone without relying much on your potion.
Buy the Helm of the spider for the head part, it gives you 720 HP which is great, it also has def slot so you can slot radiant there for more HP. For the armor and arms I bought the Steel Bulwark, becuase it has same stats with the Grand Regent which is a T2 set but without the +450 defense bonus. For the feet, I bought the Champion's Greaves of youth, gives regen. For the Main Hand and off hand again I went for the Steel Bulwark for the regen. For the accessories, from neck to waist I use this Berserker .... of youth. ..... can be amulet, ring, or belt. They give crit, arpen, and regen. Put Dark in offense slot, and radiant in def slot. You'll be able to solo all of the zone's content and strong enough for the T1 dungeon, or even a T2 if you have a good build.
There's actually a trick to get the best GF gear and own everyone and everything!
5 Easy steps!
1). Go to character select screen
2). Delete your GF
3). Create a halfling GWF
4). Level
5). Profit
Thats some BS right there. Yes the GF currently cant match the GWF in PVE but they are bound to fix that sooner or later so no need to waste our efforts grieving over it. As both a GWF and a GF player I can tell you this - if you find yourself enjoying the gameplay keep playing it. My GF has 14.4K GS currently and has been using the Grim set ever since lvl60. Its important to get ArmPen up, I see many GFs online who have like 400 ArmPen at 60 - thats bad. Also grab Plaguefire, I actually tried to make Vorpal work but without Timeless set on the crit chance is simply too low. My GF has around 23% base crit chance with my current gear and its not very reliable. For artifacts grab Waters + Lantern ( one is free the other is anywhere from 300k to 500K on the AH ). Third Artifact can be Sigil of the Great Weapon or if you are rich - Book of the Dead. It should be obvious by now Im talking about a Conqueror GF. And here is the gist of it - in solo PVE ( grinding my Shar/DR campaigns + GG ) I have zero trouble, mobs die pretty fast and barely scratch me; in PVP my GF wrecks people and can really take a beating but not class nor money save you from a bad PuG; high end PVE is where the issues become apparent: T1/T2 GG I tank the most damage but that is because I use my tank setup and have high Threat generation ability, the sad truth is my GWF main can also tank the T1/T2 solely thanks to massive dps and lifesteal ( dont need a DC at all ). Bottom line is a DPS GF in tank mode can tank better than a GWF but the current state of the game doesnt need tanking it needs damage.
PS: halfings are short and fugly I would never play one

I agree. I cry when I see those GFs with less than 500 crit and arpen. They also seem to have in excess of 4500 defense, which is so far into diminishing returns that they are wasted numbers. My Profound Preserver PVP gear only offers me ~3% more damage resistance than my Timeless Hero PVE set, so in PVE terms you are gimping yourself by stacking so much defense and neglecting offensive stats.
I also personally do not understand why GFs select the Aurora & Waters artifact over the Lantern. Maybe the Waters are nice if you get it to purple for a little more regen, but GFs don't need more defense and our best DPS gear gives us a good amount of recovery anyway. I'd take the free crit and arpen any day, as they are the two hardest stats for a GF to stack. You can also get recovery from the PVP artifact, which is ''free'' as well.
As far as performance, the only time my GF's progress is slowed is in Icewind. In Sharanblah and Dread Ring I rip through mobs. I even manage solo YOLO pulls in Dread Spire. Icewind however is a pain, even at my DPS level. I have to be cautious in Icewind, but in DR and Sharanblah I am reckless. I can and do solo Icewind dailies, including Biggrin's, but it is time-consuming.
PSA: You don't need to grind Spinward Rise for your Elemental artifact main hand if you have some AD lying around. You can craft it via the Tyranny of Dragon's campaign screen.

Still havent taken the GF into ID. One reason is I simply dont have the time to play it all as Ive yet to finish Shar and DR. My GWF in profound feels almost at ease in ID, can solo the totem enounters with good footwork. I do agree with you about the artifacts and I may replace the Waters with Sigil of the great weapon. Thing is I like how regen and recovery work on the GF, if only the Defence on it was Deflect instead . If I get full Timeless I might be tempted to try Vorpal again.
One question - how does a GF run in the Dwarf King Crypt ?

I never finished Sharandar as it was just too much of a grind, but I started again after finishing Dread Ring.
I want to do some experimenting with my GF. I want to try and stack 10% life steal and see how it goes. I'll stick with Plaguefire in PVE to maximise damage output. Vorpal could be interesting if you can eek out a little more crit. I'm sitting at 1600 before my set bonus pushes it to ~3000, don't think I have enough to consistently benefit from a Vorpal. Arpen is at -22% resistance before factoring in Dexterity, so that is pretty good, plus the Plaguefire.
For max DPS I am currently using Lantern, Sigil of the GWF and Sigil of the Devoted (MOAR power). In IWD and PVP I slot the Bloodcrystal (recovery and regen) over the Sigil of the Devoted. I would like the Waters for PVP though. I'm too poor to buy the good stuff.
To be honest, I've never been to DK with my GF. On all of my toons I have spent very little time in GG. When I do go in there it is for FC runs to maximise coin gain. I reason FC runs are faster then DK. Less lucrative, but you gain coin quicker as you can get more in.

Staggy, you and I think alike my man!!!!! I too, was wondering having 10% regen I found myself always still low on hps. Tick every 3 secs seems fast but not fast enough, I decided like you to change out my defense / deflection/ Max hp enchants in my Ion Stone of alure and my gear slots to Life Steal!
I now have about 8.9% regen and 9.2% life steal and I gotta say contrary to what I've read it has helped considerably! I even took Endless Consumption over Rampaging Madness as its a 50% per hit chance to proc!
I have found myself actually getting some really nice life steal ticks, I receive anywhere from 500 - 5000 life steal numbers. I am not a GF master that makes guides, but I buy respec tokens A LOT and can say I really feel much more survivable now with life steal.

I usually kite all the Iron Golems in boss fight, and let others beat that baddy, without DC, resulting more DPS on the boss.
But, I've done a couple run without kiting, and we just focus on the boss, because sooner or later the golems will die from our AoE attacks. (Using Knight Captain and GPF)

Yep, the most useful thing you can do as a GF there is assist with stacking the adds on the boss and chuck out as many buffs and debuffs as you can manage. You're still only there to fill a slot, but that doesn't mean that you can't make a token effort to help

Ha, nice to see someone else think outside of the GF's limited box.
Thanks for your feedback with regards to Life Steal. How do you fair in Icewind? Icewind is what got me thinking about Life Steal as I get into trouble frequently there. I can solo the whole place, but I lose health rapidly when taking on large mobs.
Does Supremacy of Steel work well with Life Steal?

Otherwise I would say, Knight Captain or Valliant.
