The artwork in much of Neverwinter is just great. All kinds of little touches that show the artists spent time to polish stuff.
Pet and mount models, particularly idling animations. The Honey Badger idlings, the horse trot in place thing, the Sylvan Stag pose then Bugle (one of my favs). Artists sure seem to have done some real-world animal / critter study prior to rendering their models.
Much of the gear is really nice looking. Rare that someone manages to hit the "flamboyant" in some cases without being just over-the-top cartoony or halloween costumy.
One gear type stands out to me as an eyesore however (just my opinion) and this is a "plea" for that arch-type of a weapon: Bows / Longbows.
Currently a large percentage of the bows I see, particularly higher end, look just funky, some almost bolted together geometric doo-dads stuck on them.
So, the plea is to view Bows with the "eye of elegance" you've all shown in so many areas. Just an art-style request really.
Think sweep of an eagle or hawk's wing. Symetrical, efficient.
Think of a finely carved violin's Scroll up by the pegbox for the ends. Lots of possibilities here for stylish differences.
The handle/riser area, grip, and arrow rest can take a fair amount of "play" in design . . . to a point. Avoid whacky-bolt-on geometric costume jewelry. Look instead for thicker, thinner, perhaps subtle carvings. But also think of smooth curving power and symetry, like a bird's wing or a bicep.
Glowing runes perhaps, glowing silver or gold inlay are ok.
Anyway, I love the art in Neverwinter. The Bow are models however (in many cases) seem to step back to WoW over-the-top cartoon-like.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the artwork in-game!

There is nothing impossible to him who will try - Alexander the Great
I know this post will be rubbished as silly or irrelevant, but I have to say that it's charming and persuasive.
Sadly, the average -=oOLord Dark KevinOo=- style teenage male player won't feel big or important enough without a large, loud, jarring.. err.. weapon to wave around. It's important for marketing purposes.
I suspect that the design brief was similar to that expounded by Douglas Adams:
The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with.'
Your point won't go anywhere, but I applaud you for making it. Thank you!

Heh-heh-heh. Perhaps.
I suppose my short version would be: "Make it look cool, bad-HAMSTER, powerful, slick . . . ".
. . .
Not Dorky.
"Smooth curving P O W E R"
lol. Anyway, thanks for the reply. /bows

The best bow IMO is Bow of the Wild (HR starter pack). One of the least extravagant or flashy-looking ones around but one with some of the most intricate designs etched on it. I transmute all my bows into it. No surprise that one of the BiS bows (crafted VT one) is also the fugliest in-game.
Our pain is self chosen.

I agree, the Bow of the Wild is very nice. Still earning the ADs on that toon for the transmute.

A city to protect
innocents to save

I feel compelled to chime in here as well. I whole-heartedly agree with the OP. Man! that endgame bow made of dragon bones is hideous in appearance, and what self respecting Elf is going to deign to don that monstrosity if any other choice is available with power behind it? ( ok kinda strong, but you get my point)
Bird's wing, like a hawk or an eagle. Something Athena or Diana would have proudly borne, drawn, and slain with.
However, have you noticed the elegance and utilitarianism of the actual quiver and bows? The feathers are lovingly drawn. The depth of the quiver is nearly perfect ergonomically.
I long for a satin finish deep wooden arch on the bow, perhaps with a little gemstone enhancement here and there in non critical areas. Something with a patina of years of use and many battles, with spots on the areas most likely to have my hands on them over time.
I dream ....

As a point of trivia I've included a link below. Why? I've played a lot of MMOs with archer classes. Being video games attacks and such are of course often fantastical. Rains of arrows, multiple shots at once, etc.
Seems, in the day as it were, maybe not so far fetched as we might at first believe.
Heh-heh. I tried to look at the video for fakery, and I don't believe it's faked. Check out the guy's routine at, hmmm, I think it's 1:30 where he starts with his hands out to the sides then reaches back as he starts his sequence.
His premise: Modern archery has developed as a Sport, not a day to day survival skill against deadly opponents. He claims there is "something wrong with modern archery, if the old historical books are right".
Fun to watch, and makes you think when the claim is people "only got really good when they were 40" years old.
I just got the profound bow and surprisingly it's simple and elegant (not the one in my avatar).
There are some bows that are over the top but I think overall bow-design in this game is top-notch (among the other great things the artist's have created).

Trivia, but Bow related anyway.
