Journal/Epic Item/Pet points - Question

Greetings

First of all: I ask out of plain curiosity and have no quarrels nor expectations, yet I am a very curious person by nature :)

I was wondering about any eventual future meaning behind Journal points (and Epic item, Pet points). I do know by now that those achievement systems are responsible for tons of fun titles, but all probably realize that it could be achieved without points-based system whatsoever. Yet they are here and bring forth many possibilities beside titles.

It would be a lie to say that I have exact image of what they can be used for without certain level of balance or game economics issues but... the later the more complicated it will be to use I guess. Pointing out all the season/holiday events which passed: some veteran players did gather quite an amount which most probably will grow.

My question is: is there any vague idea of what in future those points might be used for or whether the idea of using them at all did not fade from the game project?

As far as _I_ personally recall, no one from cryptic has hinted at what they ever intend to do with these points, other than that they think it would be cool to do _something_ with them.

Now for my personal speculation (<---- NOTE: these are _my_ words ONLY! No insider knowledge here at all!), I would guess that when they added the achievement system and the collection system there was no time to add rewards other than titles. Yet, being forward thinkers, the developers gave a point system so they could come back to it and do something with it later without having to set points at a later date for everything in the game at once.

Further, I speculate from what the developers have said on other topics, they are currently highly pressed for time (even after mod3). So, my suspicion would be that, as you say, any "vague" idea of what they will use the points for has currently not gone any further than a side discussion during a team meeting or possibly an (again) "vague" idea in gentlemancrush's head.

That said, I think (from my perspective), the answer to your question is, "No, no one outside cryptic has any idea."

However, I can tell you're quite interested in the idea, and if and when the points become used, I suspect it will be part of a module update. So if you're waiting with baited breath, I suggest just coming back and checking the forums each time you hear a new module has hit the test server.

I'm sorry I couldn't alleviate your curiosity, but I hope my answer was at least somewhat helpful to you.

Cheers to you, and welcome to the test forums,

Given the fact that module 3 adds mounts (which are largely zen store) to collections, I hope that they never add anything for collection points totals.

    Heysa!

Thank you for your opinion macaran5123. I have similar thoughts about it. Yet as we can see: the devs created a bigger amount of work upon themselves than they expected so we can only 'hope' about any Journal Points usage 'in future'. It's also not like I await it with a breathe at stand-by ;). There is just that little high-pitched voice telling me: "what it'll be, what it'll be". You could say it's like an X-mass present syndrome :D (where question: "What?!" is more important than any actual thing behind)

Also: dardove, the fact they add those means even more that those points are 'meant for something'. Knowing my past experience though and devs care about keeping up balance as much as possible - it ain't gonna be anything GRAND. Not in the meaning that it would be worthless (no, it would be something undeniably interesting) but it won''t probably give any worth-mentioning handicap to anyone. Also regarding mounts: well.. those are bit pricey, but loads of veteran players got tons of those without paying a real life cent (I got some myself this way, ) so I do not find it much of an issue.
