With the coming of account shared bank time to revisit companion trading

Since we will be getting the new account shared bank as of Tuesday, I think its time for the devs to revisit the companion trade issue.

For those that don't know: During beta one of the games claims to fame was the fact that you could level up a companion, and then sell or trade it to another player. At some point before launch they decided this wasn't a good idea (though the wording for how to do it existed in the game for some time after launch) because of the whole Risk/reward thing. They though it unfair that the companions had all the work put into them to level up and then they could be sold or given to some on who put no work at all into them (or something like that).

Now that we are getting the shared bank I think its time for the Devs to revisit this, now it would be easy to make the pets Bound to account, and let them be moved between toons on the same account even after they were leveled. The person who owns the account has "put the work into leveling" the companion already, who they decide to give it to of their own toons shouldn't be an issue.

I also think this same logic should be added to artifacts, make them bound to account so if a toon ends up with an artifact they don't have a use for ( I am mainly talking the bind on pick up ones), they could pass it off to another of their own creations who can make use of it.

I really think many in the community would appreciate these changes, we are not getting something for nothing, we had to get the companion or artifact and put our own work in to it. Once that part it done it shouldn't matter wich of our own toons has access to it!

I'm not against this, but the manner in which one could transfer a companion would have to be such that simply passing them around would have to be rather costly, otherwise it would cut into potential sales. Are you proposing that this cost ADs or gold to unbind? Or are you talking about keeping them as "Bound (Account)"? How would you handle a companion that was using gear that was bound to a specific character? Would that automatically get unslotted when placed into the account bank? How would you handle SCA stamina when transferring?

Well I could think of several ways BOA artifacts could be exploited by a person with tons of character slots like myself.

    Let's stick to companions first.

I have no issue with a Gold cost to unbind. I also don't mind if the equipment that is slotted would still be bound to character so you would have to get new equipment if you moved the companion. The rune stones in it would of course stay in them and be transferred also.

As for the Zen only companions that's a bit tricky, since right now you can buy a pet for Zen and then put it on the AH for AD in its unbound state, which is done far more then I expected it to be. I don't use Zen companions so if they wanted to limit it to non Zen companions I would be fine with it.

The only time this gets sticky is the Lillend, since you didn't actually buy her with Zen but got her through a random chance of something you bought with Zen I would assume she would stay in the category of tradable, since it makes her closer to a lock box pet then a Zen pet.

As a footnote on this: The reason I won't buy Zen companions is I am not wasting that much real money on something that is only for 1 character. I would much prefer they were like the mounts and account wide un sellable on AH. If at some point they change them to be like mounts I would be far more inclined to buy them. At that point it would also remove the need for the Zen Companions to be thought of as separate if they did make companions account bound tradable since they already got the money out of you for it in the first place.

Not sure how it would be exploited, but I am sure there is some way I can't think of.

The reason I want this is for 1 artifact only. The Resurrection Coin you get from Dread Ring, I ran 6 characters through the entire zone from top to bottom and only got the coin once and on a toon that would never have use of it. I was shocked and disappointed to find out that it was bind on Pickup, so it couldn't be traded or sold.

Six of the new artifacts in Module 3 already are a version of this (the class artifacts), 3 of the other ones are bind on equip, I am not sure on the 3 new PVP ones. If they didn't want to allow the Artifacts to account bound then at least make the Resurrection Coin a bind on equip.

As of right now I am far more interested in the Companions changing then the Artifacts, so that can be tabled if need be.

i doubt they will ever do this .... 1 simple reason they are scared the sales on companions will go down.... still ppl buy em for actv bonus if it wasnt for that im sure they wouldnt sell anyway the price of upgrading 1 is way to high as an old player i can afford atm but still not worth the effort ... as a totaly new starter player is nearly impossible unless ur gonna grind like crazy or invest alot of $$

I just posted my thoughts on the subject in a separate thread my thoughts are that they should have treated companions purchased prior to the patch that instituted the Active Bonuses the chance to re-bind to another single character. The same reason they give characters that have gotten past 30 the re-spec token to choose the brand new path. With no heads up about the active bonuses coming into play they really left a lot of folk like me in a red herring situation. My thread has brought up some other possible solutions involving adding a re-train token that would unbind a companion to either sell or bind to another account character. Not bound to account. I'd pay 800-1000 Zen for one of those and they could actually make more money under my model. Check it out and see if you don't think it works.
