so i have finally decided upon a main character (Orc Weapon Master) after trying all the classes for a few levels. now that i have settled into my character i need to know a few things. as i am leveling have pretty much saved everything i get from chests and kits that arent garbage armor and weapons. i am just wondering if the stuff i get from chests and the other things that require kits is worth farming. can i make any astral diamonds off of it? would it be worth it to stock up on kits and get everything i come by or do i have to wait till later to start accumilating AD?

Runes you get from those chests and skill nodes you will need to start refining and placing in your gear slots, that is one of the biggest goals in the endgame, to get those to tier 10.

You do not need to have kits for all the different profession nodes - this is also what these are called. These chest that require kits appear everywhere and now and then you have the "Professions Event", which will add a bit of extra loot to them. Just keep every kit that you find and use it up, but it is not necessary to buy kits and have a full set of all the different kits.

The loot from the profession nodes is used in professions. Depending how far you have levelled so far may you not yet be able to start with professions. So you want to get to a higher level first.

Later, once you have a level 60 character and started with professions can you get quite some good loot from these profession nodes, especially during the "Professions Event" and when you find such a node in an epic dungeon. Then you can find things like Mark of Potency, which are needed for upgrading enchantments, and these can be worth several tens of thousands of AD.

Simply get to level 60 and there you also have more daily missions to do (in campaigns like Dread Ring and Sharandar), and the loot drops from mobs often drop kits, that you should collect. This I find is enough for casual play. Only if you want to farm these nodes properly should you also buy kits and run epic dungeons.

Same goes for the normal chests. These contain random loot, but can also contain valuable items. It is all a matter of chance and the quality of the dungeon.
    Stay frosty.

My suggestion is to only identify gear you can use and sell the rest off. Even blue gear pre-60 isn't really worth hanging onto to sell. You will also find that you'll replace gear pretty quickly, as you get new stuff, so I wouldn't invest too much into refining the enchantments that you place in them.

Honestly, the 1-59 game is more about learning your character and how to play them effectively, than about saving up gear for later - for under 1000 ADs you can buy a full set of pretty good blue gear once you do hit 60 - just 1 initial invocation - so don't worry too much just now. Once you do hit 60, well that's when the gear game begins.

Good luck and welcome to Neverwinter!

Pick up all the green/blue gear that drops and all the ID scrolls. At first, use scrolls to ID only the items that may be an improvement for you and any and all blue gear. Once you have a good stock of scrolls, ID everything to increase your gold faster. The lesser ID scrolls stop working on items level 30 and higher, so as you approach that level, definitely use them up. At level 20, you get normal scrolls that work up till level 59. Do the same thing. Conserve them at first, then when you have a good supply use them freely. (at mid to high level I usually just buy cheap green gear from the AH and avoid trying to wait for new gear to randomly drop.) Blue gear should only be equipped if it's got stats you need. Otherwise, you can sell it on the AH for some AD. Do some searches first and try to get a feel for what they're selling for. Blue armor and weapons sell for a lot more than ring/belt/neck items, but generally you can make something off of them. This will drop off once you get around level 50 because people stop gearing up so much as they are probably saving for epic gear.

The reason you want gold is to buy skill kits and you want skill kits to farm nodes because they are a great source of enchantments and runes once you get to level 20 or so. Use those to slot in your gear once you can and to improve your artifact when you get it. You can also sell the profession resources on the AH, though generally that requires bulk to be profitable.

I mentioned buying green gear on the AH. That costs next to nothing and allows you to target your stats, making things a bit easier. It's not as important as it will be at level 60, but for a DPS class you really want to have Armor Penetration as it will be a damage boost and a good defense and some regeneration and/or life steal will make everything a lot easier. At level 45, I've had a DC running around with 1000 points of regeneration, which made running lairs a lot easier.

so the armor penetration is more important than crit? i have been focusing on the former as it seemed right.
i tried to run a foundry, but nothing happened. so much stuff to figure out.

Armor Penetration increases your damage up to the point where a mob has no resistance to your attacks. Up until you hit the amount of Resistance Ignored (24% max in PVE outside of the upcoming Mod3 area) every point of Resistance Ignored is an extra percent damage that you do. Critical hits (unless modified) do an additional 75% damage but only if you get a Critical Hit in. Armor Pen affects every attack you do, critical or otherwise. For the most part, Armor Pen first, then Crit, then Power. Armor Pen for the straight up damage increase, Crit for the chance to inflict more damage and then Power as it has less return than other offensive stats but has no soft cap.

However all of this is most notable at higher levels when you can stack the stats easier. For very low level chars, the only important stat to stack is Hit Points since you don't have many so the small amounts that you get matter more.

    Well its kinda like this...

With power only... the high end and low end damage you do will have a very large variance... the base level is affected by power. Armor Penetration is what stablizes this and makes it more constant. Removing the Armor value of opponents makes that average much higher.

Crit then takes over, where the difference between the Power/ARP ratio ends and then multiplies the end result of that by that 75%.

Recovery affects how often you can attack with encounter powers so lots of attacks even at reduced damage can be significant.

So technically all four are important, but that's where they all fit in on the grand scheme of things.

My advice would be to not worry about AD or the game economy at all until you hit level 60. Just focus on having fun and learning your character. Don't buy gear from any from the game shops because you'll outgrow it and find something better within an hour of playing. All of the enchantments and runestones are worth hanging on to and upgrading. Anything else? Not really.

Anything and everything you will come across from levels 1-59 has already been farmed to death and will gain you virtually nothing on the auction house. That can also be to your benefit. There will be some good, level appropriate gear on the auction house for dirt cheap if you find you're having problems and can use a bit of a boost.
