Why I am about to quit playing NW

Hello all,

I am not sure this is the correct forum, please relocate as necessary. I am a fairly new player and am relatively unfamiliar with the forums.

I am writing today to let other new players know about an issue I've recently discovered in the game, which has been discussed at some length here and elsewhere. It's a big flaw, a very easy fix and a HUGE red flag for me.

Last night, I decided to try to run a dungeon. I'm fully geared in t1 on my CW. I've earned a set of Focal Magi gear through t1 dungeon running, and in accordance with my build, Shadow Weaver gear is my next target. I picked up the gloves in Karrundax the other day, so I queued for a few dungeons that drop the other stuff, and was fortunate enough to find a group for Spellplague Caverns. I helped clear the dungeon and coached the players that didn't seem to have experience in the dungeon as we wiped a few times when attempting boss fights. Players dropped and joined a few times, as is typical, and I waited around for a while (had the chest) until we had a full group again and were able to take down the Maw bosses. A GF/GWF with a high GS joined and we finally made it through. We wiped once with the last boss, but that player was great about the final fight and kited the adds so that we could dps down the boss.

When the boss fell, he dropped the gloves I was chasing, as well as some boots and seals. I still had the chest, but as soon as I saw the gloves had dropped and the other CW in the party had needed them, I chose "need."

At that point, the GF or GWF (not sure which) became enraged and said "are you [expletive] kidding me? you're going to need after all that?" and promptly kicked myself and the other CW. I was out of the party and the dungeon before I had a chance to loot the chest or retrieve the dropped seals. I was shocked, so I quickly pm'd the other CW to see if they had met the same fate - they had.

In retrospect, I now realize that because the boss had dropped the loot I was chasing, the chest would have contained the same loot. Being a relatively new player (I've been going at it for a couple months), I did not make that connection sooner. The GF/GWF in question had a GS in the 15k range, I believe, and obviously was there for the AD from the gear, not the gear itself. In our argument after the fact, this disturbingly self-absorbed individual explained that CW epics are the most valuable, thus making his greed for AD and intolerance for others' inexperience blatantly clear. He then tried to tell me that he had stated before the fight that this was a greed-on-epic-drops run...first, I didn't see any such discussion, and I didn't hear him on voice until the end when he was screaming and swearing. I also didn't agree to that arrangement, and I dislike the idea of other players dictating such things unless it is a guild arrangement or agreed upon before beginning the run -- he was the last player to join. I do not believe that I did anything wrong by trying to improve my gear so that I can be more useful to parties in the future (including the guild that I belong to and run greed-only runs with as often as possible -- unfortunately, not this time).

So, essentially, because the guy was the party leader, he was able to decide that we weren't entitled to what we had spent what seemed like hours to earn. He was justified in ruining my enjoyment of the game because he believed that he should have control of how others choose to play, and knew how to manipulate this gaping flaw to make me suffer for not playing according to HIS will, as opposed to the universally-understood and accepted rules of the game. It was at that point that I decided that any game which allows other players to waste my time will inevitably cause me more grief than it is worth.

I would happily post his toon name and @name here, but I am afraid that may get this thread closed/removed. If this is not the case, let me know, and I'll gladly name him.

I sent a report to a GM under the "Behavior" tab. I didn't know how else to report this kind of griefing. If this is incorrect, please advise.

I await a response to my report, but have decided not to play again until one is received. I don't know if I should expect an email, or if they'll contact me in-game, so I will log in from time to time and check. If anyone could advise, I'd appreciate it. I assume that if I don't hear back within 24 hours, I probably won't be contacted at all, and I'll uninstall the game, so that's what I'll do.

In the meantime, I decided to post here to let others know (in case you haven't seen the many threads on the subject or experienced this issue first-hand), that any player can do this to you at any time. To me, this means that there's absolutely no point to playing. I'd rather pay a subscription fee for a game that doesn't allow this to happen. It's worth it to prevent becoming extremely frustrated and disappointed by those who seek to have control over others by abusing the option to kick. After reading many threads on the subject, it appears that any individual can make those decisions alone, and group agreement is not required. Just the party lead.

I see this as an opportunity to learn whether the folks in charge value fairness. If the powers that be make it right, I'll keep playing and will be very likely to invest some money in this game, because besides this issue I haven't really had a problem. In fact, I like it so much that I've been considering purchasing higher-end packs for the mounts they give so that I can dive right into mod 3 once it's released. I've had lots of fun learning, experimenting and playing, but this is just such an easy fix that I can't justify investing any more time or any money until I am certain that, if not fixed, the victims of this type of abuse will at least be compensated.

So, folks, there you have it. If you didn't know (like me), now you know. If you wanna run dungeons, stick with your guilds and don't end up like me!

(inb4 the seemingly-obvious solution, repeated time and time again, that there needs to be a mechanism in place to prevent kicking people at the end of dungeon boss fights as it is evidently used to steal dropped loot or grief players by removing them from the dungeon before they have a chance to loot chests)

we're sorry that you've experienced some bad in-game behavior, however per the forum rules of conduct:

Rule 3.02 - No "I Quit" Threads or Posts
. . . . We're sorry to see you go, but please keep your goodbyes to PMs or in game messages. These threads do not contribute to the community discussion and generally end in hate or flames. Threads and Posts that purvey one quitting or the threat of quitting are considered "I Quit" threads and posts.

    and

Rule 3.15 - No Petitions, Ultimatums or Hostile Demands
. . . . Please keep feedback constructive and within a format for Community Discussion. Disallowed topics include things like, "Please Nerf This Class" and anything without the direction of a constructive Community Discussion.

to answer some of your specific questions, naming and shaming is not allowed on the forums. report bad behavior by using the in-game GM reporting feature.

if you're not in a guild, you may try running dungeons with the /NW_Legit_Community as they seem to be a more friendly and helpful bunch most of the time.

also, if you submit a report against a player, their response will be that they're going to do a full investigation but due to their privacy policy, they will not be able to provide the results of their investigation with you. so if you are out for blood, i'm afraid you won't be getting it there or here.

you are more than welcome to PM me or any of the community team if you have further questions.
