Greater Marks of Potency on the Auction Hosue

A couple of questions -

1) Are there really this many drops in game?

2) Are people really buying these for more than 100,000 AD?

I ask because there's a vendor that sells them for 100k. And if people really are buying them for more than 100k, it sounds like this could simply be someone buying them from the vendor and selling them on the auction house.

I also ask because I have yet to get a single drop after almost completing the Dread Ring campaign with 3 characters. Now I have not done any runs of Valindra's Tower with any of these chars. And I've only done a handful of other epic dungeons during this time. Was trying to see what kind of drop percentage I would get outside of dungeon runs since there are other ways to get these drops.

Greater Marks of Potency don't drop in Dread Ring. They drop only from epic dungeon bosses. And yes they are rare drops. I'd say probably only once in about every 20 dungeons or so, 3 bosses each, I'll see a Greater Mark of Potency drop.

I see around 3-5 in a weekend of dungeon delves. that's roughly 1 or 2 every couple of T2 runs (saying that they are SEEN, not that I personally get this many).

But you're right, there is no reason to buy them on the AH, you'd be surprised that there are a lot of people that don't know that the wonderous bazaar sells these marks. I also see a tone of people asking where to buy scrolls (same place, even accessible anywhere, not just in P.E.)

The tooltip for the glove chests in Dread Ring says it's possible. Did I read that wrong?

Those give Greater Marks of Power, Stability and Union. Not Potency.

I'd go for even rarer than that,

I've done over a hundred runs, and I've only seen 3. I was lucky enough to win 2 of them.

They drop from lockboxes, which people open often. I've seen one or two from a node in the Dread Ring or Sharandar.

People buy them from the AH because they're uniformed and don't frequent places like the forums. People also buy companions, mounts, P. Wards and such from the AH as well, when they can buy them much cheaper from the in-game vendors. I actually put it as one of my AD making methods in my guide, but it was removed because it was considered somewhat shady.

Yeah - suggesting such an idea is a question of ethics. However, for most of what's in the AH is a question of informational knowledge: most who post there are basing prices on whatever is already there, most who buy there either aren't aware of the vendor or presume it costs less than the vendor (such as how any Z-Store items in the AH are ridiculously under-priced).

My personal rule-of-thumb: Always buy from the in-game vendor for in-game items, always buy from AH for Z-Store items, always check current AD/Z conversion rate and Z-Store/Vendor prices first. I'm never in so much of a hurry as to just throw AD around so easily.

I can see cryptic's point about it being shady.....you are indirectly "scamming" (for lack of a better term) the buyer by putting up prices that are more expensive than the ones the vendor sells.

Oh well, don't really care. Less people know about it, more money for me to make off of it.

I am just unsure why players keep selling them for more than 100k. Someone should sticky about that vendor, dropped marks should sell for 80-90k max. I just buy them off the in game astral diamond vendor.

Best part is you dont even have to visit her to access it. just press the diamond icon on your hotbar.
