I am currently holding onto the event Deathknell Sickles and i am wondering, how to weapon transmogs work exactly?

I know that the transmog weapon gets used up, but after i get a better weapon, can i transmog my old weapon(with the sickle look) to my new weapon and will my new weapon have the sickle look?

Yes you can, however it will cost you some AD to do so. The free transmute gets used it, and it a one shot deal. So it can start to cost quite a bit as you progress.

Most people wait, until they get an item that they know they will hang on to for some time. Before transmuting it.

It depends on your level but at level 60 transmutation costs 51k per item ( unless it is an item with a free transmute obviously ) if I was you I'd save your weapon skins until at least 60 because leveling in the game is quite fast and transmuting every few levels will quickly become expensive , especially if you are a new player without any resources from a main to fall back onto.

Depending upon your schedule, you may be able to simply get on a good CTA farm team, and you'll have enough medallions of battle to buy multiple copies of the transmutation item - then you can transmute what you have now AND hold onto another copy of them for when you get better gear later.
