My friend has a level 36 character, mine is 41, what level does she need to be to avoid having a penalty to her xp while I run with her?

Not sure of any specific information on this but any penalty would only apply to monster XP.

As long as you help her do her quests she will catch up to you in short order.

Oh and don't share quests unless the other person already did those quests as they will not count towards completions and will always only award half experience.

I believe it's 7 levels and it can have a profound impact on speed of leveling. Monster exp can add up quite a bit.

Yes, monster kill XP is actually a fair bit.

I run every alt with Azure (+XP% for monster kills) enchants and it make a very noticeable difference. Even with three ranks 1s (~10% extra monster XP) it means that after level 15 or so I can stay on target level just by running quests, and don't need to do a single Foundry, Dungeon, Skirmish or PvP unless I want to.

How do you need an XP BOOST to stay on target?
I've always hit the cap well before the end of the content of the game (a full zone and a half worth usually) with no xp bonus, Foundries, DD, Skirmishes or PvP at all.

Do you invoke or do Leadership? Because I usually level up my alts in under a week, so my gain from those is minimal. Or perhaps I just don't kill as many extra mobs as you.

I usually hit 60 at the very start of Whispering Caverns although I have done it at the end of Mount Hounslow too. At lower levels I find that there is a slightly too little XP available, but somewhere about 30ish it evens out and from then I am usually slightly ahead of the quest level curve which is good as I don't need tie up bag space storing any items for future use. But without the extra XP boost with my play style I would be behind the XP curve enough for that to be annoying.

Yep, I do Invocation and some Leadership (though typically the tasks that only give profession xp) and, yes, a more casual pace makes that more productive. Heck, taking 2 weeks off during the Winter Festival really shot me ahead of the content curve. I'd guess that most players fall between us in terms of speed though.

At least they will hopefully be addressing the xp balance (see the sticky thread about 'Hot Topics').
