Suggestion: Make companions dodge red areas

Companions' AI has been improved. They now know to avoid ememies' punches and to grant combat advantage for owners. That's a good thing. But they just still have no idea what red areas are so they don't dodge.

This suggestion actually had been brought up by other players before. From time to time, we see threads talk about companion's upgrade price. Considering the useful active bonuses we get, personally I don't argue about the price. But those threads do remind us again that companions' AI could be better, and dodging red areas is one they currently need for their own survivability and also for making the upgrade feels more worthwhile. Hopefully, one day we will no longer see players say only augment companions are worth summoning in epic contents.

They would also have to make them stop aggroing mobs, or mobs aggroing on them.

Yes, companions also need to not aggro mobs actively.

Why? They already have 80% resistance to AOE attacks :D

Sorry if I miss something, but how do you know that?

I'd like to see a selection of companion-specific gear added - like rings or belts that make them generate more or less aggro, or something akin to weapon enchantments, but for companions - like ones that make them deal extra necrotic damage, while also applying a defense debuff to targets, (like a plaguefire).

That's interesting. Surely companions use weapon enchantments would be fun. I had ever parsed a Master of the Hunt skirmish run in which I brought my moderately geared purple Wayward Wizard with me, and he did like 28x,HAMSTER damage. That's not bad.

With weapon enchantments, some companions would be more helpful in taking down mobs. Only it might not work as expected for companions who don't attack, such as Fawn of Shiallia, or for some who do little damage, such as Lillend (about 55 damage per DoT tick. meh).

At first I noticed that my 18k CIW eats too much of Dracolich's direct breath which is an AOE attack :D He could survive two breaths in a row and still keep fighting lol
Then someone told me that in other MMOs devs give pets AOE resist to compensate their poor AI.

Well, those are other MMOs after all. In this MMO, we haven't heard from devs that companions have 80% resistance to AOE attacks.

Lol, I barely remember them confirming anything so I doubt. Why wouldn't they follow the same way the others did?

Besides, I've done a lot of testing with my army of companions already. They take significantly less damage from AOE attacks, just go and see it yourself :P

I'd rather just request a buff to their stats or oh well another lvl of quality.

This is suspicious, I hope noone gets caught

vasdamas, Thanks. I will pay attention to the damage they take from red areas to check if they really have more resistance to those attacks.

Before logging into game today I checked the Forums, Saw this contribution and thought I don't know if I ever noticed this situation.

In game(solo)and dancing with the end Boss and his flunkies, I was busy for sure running around, but a couple times I did see my L 20(of 25)companion either stop short or actually stay out the "red" areas.

Maybe the companion was just lucky or perhaps there is some part of the AI that has them attempt to avoid the "red" areas.

Only those responsible can answer regarding this issue.

There is a work around. Spend 12 dollars on an Ioun stone or farm one out. It's what literally everyone else does when they put their serious face on.

Every pet that is not an augment is Cryptic trolling you for cash.

Weapon enchants for companions is an interesting idea. I have a ring I'd quit using with a lesser tene and gave it to a companion, because I was too cheap and lazy to take it off, but I don't think he's getting any benefit from the tene.
