Alienware effects

For some reason the game makes my alienware effects (The colored lights on the computer) go haywire. As soon as I start running the game they start flashing a bunch of different colors really fast in a random, irregular pattern. It's seizure inducing really. Is there a way to fix this or do I just need to turn them off while playing?
