New Character Causes Client to Crash

Hello,

I've taken a break from NWO for a while and now I'd like to start playing again.

I recently created a Hunter Ranger High Elf and whenever I log into the game to play that character, the client crashes shortly after entering the game. A "DirectX Fatal Error" window appears and a "Oops! The client has stopped working. Please send a report ticket." window.

My other character, which I made months ago, works fine. I can do quests, run around, buy/sell at merchants, etc., with no problems at all.

I've tried deleting the hunter ranger and creating a new one, with the same problem.

I've repaired the client and had it verify all files multiple times when it asks me, with no success. I've updated the client from the recent patch update.

Again, I can play on my original character with no problems whatsoever. It's only with the new character that the client completely crashes (which is completely mind-boggling to me).

P.S. I've posted on the perfect world support forums, with no answer or any replies at all.

Hope to get some support here on the actual NWO forums when possible.

EDIT: I would like to add that whenever I open the NWO client through Arc, a window appears telling me there is a problem with data, and they need to verify all files, and should take 10 to 20 minutes to verify. After verifying, the client allows me to click Play and enter the game.

Try opening NWO client from the actual install location on your computer, do not use ARC, also make sure any files for ARC are not running in the background. This way if it works and stops crashing, you figured out ARC is the problem. Let us know with another update if this works or not.

i think it might be ARC because ever since my last ARC update ive been hit with multiple game crashes and "gameclient.exe has stopped working" and it got so annoying that i actually uninstalled both and reinstalled both games.

whether you are using arc or just the original launcher, when you have a game crash, you will always get the prompt to verify the game files. also, currently arc isn't part of the launch process other than to start the launcher. they do intend to make arc the launcher/patcher for neverwinter, but that has not yet been implemented.

you can try going into the launcher's options and launch the game in safe mode to see if you can get into your HR. if this doesn't work, you may also try selecting OPTIONS in the character select screen and going into video options. if DX9 isn't selected, make sure it's selected. if you can get into the game with the safe mode option, do the same thing. go into the video options and make sure DX9 is selected. exit the game and try booting the game in normal mode.

if you still have issues, please submit a support ticket.

When you click play on the ARC launcher it brings up a NW launcher, in the top right corner you will see options. Click on it and it will bring up the options for the launcher. In there you need to select safe mode.

Putting the launcher in safe mode fixed it. Will I have to launch it in safe mode every time for now on? Or will this eventually be fixed?
