Yes, most of the reasoning is from high-end groups in which the question is not if you beat the content but only how fast. I ran MC on my CW a few days back with an undergeared group and it was a mess. I ended up at 14M damage before Fulminorax with the second CW/HR/GWF coming in at 5-6M each. I had all the aggro in the world and died like 10+ times and it would have been worse without SF and a good bunch of Life Steal. Within these groups, a GF makes a whole lot of sense.
And quite frankly, I've ran CN/MC/VT within various group setups and at a certain gear level the difference between a GF/GWF or even a GF and additional CW is marginal.
I would go as far as saying that the state of the TR in PVE is much more concerning. If it wasn't for runners, that class would be dead. Can't recall that I've seen a TR in a pug recently.

Ironically I've been enjoying my guardian fighter, which has been my main since beta, more than I have in a long time during the past few weeks in both PvP and PvE.
I think that's all the more reason to gear the class up now while our gear is dirt cheap. It's only a matter of time before the devs make the GF viable again. They did so for GWF's, and look at how nice they are right now. I believe every class will be brought up to par in time, although things may be slow at first.
I see this as an opportunity more than a decline. Better invest now while stocks are cheap.
Agreed. Besides, it is a risk-free investment, if you think about it:
A) If they improve the GF and make it a viable class, you just got gear at a discount price.
If they never improve the GF, well, that means game is not really going anywhere and the dev team does not have what it takes to make it survive long, so you just spent currency of a game that you will not keep on playing anyway.

And i really like the gf its an important part of the game especially for glass cannon build survival.
