I am here to propose a new pvp system that should help alleviate some of the frustration people are having with PVP and the way rewards are given.
I suggest that we introduce a tier system which will complement the proposed ELO rating system. The system will work like this:
Tier 1:Win 500 glory + loss in ELO rating / Lose or quit 100 Glory gain in ELO rating
Tier 2:Win 1000 glory + loss in ELO rating / Lose or quit 500 Glory gain in ELO rating
Tier 3:Win 2000 glory + loss in ELO rating / Lose or quit 1000 Glory gain in ELO rating
The point of this system is to reward people that stick it out in fights and move up a tier to gain more glory. The ones that quit get punished by being put in a lower tier thus less glory.
Ideally, you want to be able to queue up with the people in your Tier only, whether or not the game has the population to support this is another question.
Tier 3
This helps the people that like to PVP because they end up at the highest tier and fight the people at the highest tier. They get rewarded with people that like to stay and fight and because of the ELO rating will give them a much better fight. Also at this tier level, they don't have to worry about quitters, because they will eventually fall back to tier 2 and will naturally get weeded out. This way they don't have to deal with 2 types of PVPers, the ones that are there for their daily or just care about getting some glory. You have to work for it at this level.
Tier 2
This level are for players that don't quit the match and aren't super competitive. They still get a good amount of glory but won't get as much as the more serious Tier 3 players. These players will have to deal with the Tier 3 fallouts and the Tier 1 risers. Hopefully at this tier, people will have to deal with less people leaving matches.
Tier 1
This level are for the new players coming and the ones that leave the match often. There are few rewards for these players/bots as they will be the ones always losing or quitting the match.
So how do we separate the tier's? I suggest a % base of the population. So Tier 3 is top 25% ELO, Tier 2 is 25-75% and Tier 3 is 0 -25%.
This ends up splitting the PVP population into easy, medium and hard. The lower tier players should find it easier to get glory since they can actually stay, fight and actually earn some glory. Thus getting better gear through glory to move up the ranks.
With this new system, everyone will strive to move up the tiers because the higher tiers give the better rewards for the time you spent in the game.
Please discuss and I'll update this as people's concerns are questioned and are answered.
They certainly have to do something. I know folks complain about leavers all the time but the current award system is obscenely stacked against lopsided games such that it's really not worth anyone's time to remain (winning side or losing side). To me that screams design problem.
